Question Bodge job

I just discovered a loose cable tucked up behind the passenger visor that terminates in what looks like a telephone connector. It seems to go into the overhead console. Any idea what it might be before I whack it off?

I just started pulling and it was tucked up under the headliner above the windshield. It went down the A pillar and into the dash. I just cut it off. Hope it wasn't important.

So did you put a meter on it to see if it was hot in either engine off or engine on.

Nah, I found a piece of velcro on the back of the mirror and figured the previous owner had installed "something" that would be held by the velcro and I didn't need whatever it was. My multimeter probes can't get into those 4p4c phone jacks anyway. It appears everything still functions.

You might want to open the fuse box in the left driver kick panel. You will probably find the other end of the wire you cut attached in there.

That was a wiring harness for an Easy Button. Now it won't work for you.

You might want to find the rest of the wire and remove it, or at the very least insulate the end of it.

However, if something does go wrong, I know where to look. I hate problems that I don't have a starting point.

Better done on your car than mine Don-T...
Like your handle though. I guess next time consider heeding the meaning of the contraction.

Hi All,

I just pulled the trip computer to have a look.

Seems my memory aint what it used to be either.

The LED is infact clear. I notice that a blue diode has been soldered inline which didn't I remember either.

Blue diode appears to have bands marked Brown Black Black Brown Brown.

That clear tap in the second pic is where the strip on the front display picks up its' light source.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Nigel

That’s a resistor not a diode.

Clearly this is in the wrong forum since that is the trip computer from a Series III XJ...

At least he now knows it is a resistor & didn't have to bother anyone on his intended page.
