Buying a used XKR 2010

Welcome to the XK world. These cars are very reliable and a pleasure to drive and owned if properly maintained. Known issues for the 5.0 litre XK (2010+) include failing water pumps which can happen almost anytime. There is no temp gauge so what you have to look out for is that if you smell engine coolant check the reservoir and insure that there is coolant visible, top up if necessary and beat it to the nearest indie or dealership that handles Jaguars and get it checked and replaced if necessary. Other issues can be found by typing in known mechanical issues for 2010+ XK XKR.
If you are not going to use your XK/XKR very often, invest in a Ctek battery maintainer and use when your vehicle is idle. These cars like most other newer cars are tough on batteries. The entire Ctek setup should cost less than $90 on ebay/amazon and take no more than 20 minutes to install.
Good luck and good hunting.

Miguel,
What Ralph said is significant, and in addition, you want proof of the history of oil changes. When I bought mine about 3 years ago, when I first drove it, I was highly unimpressed, in fact, I had decided not to purchase it. The seller kept calling me, and I finally told him to bring the car to my mechanic nearby. In the first 30 seconds of listening to the engine, my mechanic suggested that the car was imminently in need of a new engine. The seller, after recovering from shock, called his aftermarket insurance company who paid my mechanic to put a new engine in the car. Afterwards, I drove it and was stunned at the difference. It was (and is) a beast! I asked my mechanic why the engine failed, and it turns out there was virtually no oil in it and no evidence of any oil changes! Checking the oil level is a pain since there is no dipstick and you do it from the computer display, but it is essential to check on a regular basis. Obviously, the lowest miled car is desirable but not absolutely necessary. Documented service history gives you the best chance at getting a reliable car.
Good luck, and by the way there was a gorgeous red 2010 XKR in the forum classifieds a couple of weeks ago that had some great upgrades that were not available from the factory in 2010 (rear view camera, Apple direct connection). The car was stunning and priced under $30K. I'm not sure if it's still available or not.

Miguel,
This is the car I was talking about, it is still listed on ebay and seems to be an excellent candidate at a very good price.

You're right. 162,000 miles on her and running better than when I bought her a 100,000 miles ago. Actually, I bought the 2010 XKR coupe to preserve its life a little longer. Compared to the 2010, its ride and handling are crude, obviously the power is less, but it makes you feel so special every time you get into the cockpit. And the Jaguar heritage is on full display on that sensual body.

162,000 miles... how about that... I have a 88 Mitsubishi Mighty Max, I use for work with over 265,000 miles. I always wonder if the engineers ever thought that it would be around till this day? Parts are harder and harder to come by though and that might be it's demise... Great to hear that Jaguars are running around with that many miles...

tberg, You mentioned a bubble on the dash? When I checked the car over Sunday I looked for that bubble and would you believe it, it had it. Is it more like becoming unglued and lifting? It's doing it between the center and a little to the right. Good call...
Other than that the car Hauls ***... How'd ya fix that or did someone do it or is it a dealer bulletin item?
