On some of my other jags there is sometimes a sound that comes from around the steering column that I think has to do with the climate control system...sounds like a pumping noise (kinda like a low pitched rattle)...from what I understand it is cycling air for the climate control system...others may have a better answer...I have never heard this on my 08 XKR tho....

It could be the airbag system arming.

Default Buzz Buzz

I've had the Buzz (in the dash, not in my head) ever since the car was new -- 07 XKR coupe. Dealer says it's a noisy relay and that it's not worth fixing because it may open a can of worms... I've learned to live with it.

Hi,

I've just got an 07 XKR and absolutely love it. The one gripe is that when the ignition is off and I open or close the door there is a short but loud buzz. Is this the same as yours? Main Jaguar Dealer is telling me that it is the steering column lock "finding it's position" and that this is "standard", but I find that pretty hard to believe! I have a video I can email if anyone wants to listen. Any thoughts?

Actually, I think it's a cooling fan for the screen/radio/hvac unit. Mine's a 10 and it does it as well.

My 2007 XK does it as well as all the XKs and XFs I have been in. It has to do with the climate control...it's normal

Default Buzzing Sound Near Steering Column

Hello all,

Am a new first time Jag owner, 2007 XK Coupe that I've owned for a week.

I opened the driver's door this morning and heard the buzz that has been mentioned. I've isolated it to the underside of the dash by the steering column. The buzz is there both with the engine running and not. Maybe it has been there all the time and this is the first that I've heard it but I doubt it since I have spent a fair amount of time just sitting in the car enjoying my good fortune.

Does anyone have any update on the possible cause before I take it to a dealer?

Thank you.

Mine does this as well -- ever since I got it. I suspect it's a cooling fan for the NAV/HVAC screen, but that's just a guess. Others have reported hearing it as well.

If you do decide to take it in, I'd be interested in knowing what the resolution was.

Geez, this is one gremlin I have not run into. Oh, don't worry, I have had lots of others, but so far, no buzzing from the dash...

One thought,

When I first got my 08 (in jan 11), the heater relay was blown and had to be replaced under warranty. Could the relay be the problem?

I have the same noise. Can be a bit annoying as it seems to oscilate in speed up and down.

I have a 2003 Jaguar X-type, and I have a buzzing like sound when I open the door and it stays on even after the doors are close. I like to see if we have the same issue. You can send your clip to anthonyalva76@aol.com when you can. Thank you for sharing.

Aspirator fan for the climate control system. Mine's getting replaced by the dealer along with some other small warranty items on Wednesday. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem.

Took my car in to the dealer for a few small warranty items today. They fixed the glove box damper, adjusted the headlights, ordered a new aspirator motor, and to my great surprise, a brand new dash. The leather began to separate a little which left a small bubble on the dash to the left of the speaker. I pointed it out when I brought the car in and figured they'd give me hard time about it - they didn't even question it. They just ordered a new dash along with the aspirator motor and said they'd give me a call next week when it arrived I couldn't be more pleased - what a difference from the BMW dealer.

Please be sure to write back and let us all know if the new aspirator helped the noise issue.

Dealer installed a new dash, new aspirator motor, and new rear brake pads today, free of charge. The noise is still present but it's not as loud as it was - I could hear it with the windows rolled down at a stop light before. Now I have to have the windows closed and the engine shut off to hear it.

Thanks for the update. Not sure if I'll bother replacing the aspirator now.

I don't think that I've ever heard of brake pads being covered under warranty.

I don't know if this was the case, but there is a known issue with a "crunching" sound upon brake application that is traced to the brake pads. My dealership has replaced mine a couple of times in an effort to eliminate the noise.

The pads were replaced by the dealer becuase the Carfax said they were replaced before they put the car up for sale. The sales manager covered the cost, I didn't even ask for it. I've been very pleased with the dealer so far.
