Default A/c hissing sound intermittently

There are times when I'm first starting my car (2010 XK 19,000 miles) that my a/c will give what I would call a "hissing" sound, almost like a whistling. After a period of time, it goes away and it will just goes to blowing as a normal a/c unit would. For the most part, this sound occurs when my car is warming up, and once I get back into the car throughout the day, I don't hear it again. The air is always cold, and thank god I have no "Duck Bill" issues. Can anyone identify why my car is doing this? and if it's something I should be concerned about? I have changed my cabin filter last year and this year as well.

If I remember right, there is a little valve somewhere that sometimes leaks a bit. There is a thread in here somewhere about it. I think a little rubber disk must be either unstuck or replaced.
Sorry I can't help more, I forget more than I remember.

@bocatrip That noise might be from the aspirator.

I believe I might have changed the aspirator under warranty shortly after I purchased the car years ago….. but not positive.

AH, I assumed the hissing was from the engine area and not the interior.... for some reason. SO, if it's an interior noise, totally forget I posted anything.

Still not sure what the intermittent hissing sound is as I've had it for years and am first aware of it......but I threw a thermometer I purchased for my home a/c unit (fairly accurate) and was getting low 40 degree temps out of my car's vents at the lowest setting......So....at least the car is cooling off great so I shouldn't complain about some initial hissing on startups! There's enough to complain about with our cars! One thing is I don't have a leak! On to the next thing.......

Normal Refrigerant Flow Through the Expansion Valve (Most Likely in This Case)

- Explanation: The expansion valve (or orifice tube in some systems) regulates refrigerant flow from high-pressure liquid to low-pressure gas as it enters the evaporator. On the first startup after the car has sat overnight, system pressures often equalize naturally. When the compressor engages, this creates a sudden pressure drop and turbulent refrigerant flow, producing a temporary hissing or whistling sound until the system stabilizes (usually within minutes). This is more noticeable in the morning because subsequent starts during the day don't allow full equalization, reducing the intensity. It's often considered normal operation in many vehicles, including luxury models like Jaguars, and doesn't indicate a failure if cooling remains effective.

- Why it fits: Matches the timing (initial startup only, fades to normal blowing), intermittency, and lack of ongoing issues. No repairs needed unless it worsens or cooling degrades.

- Fix if problematic: Not typically required, but a professional AC service to check pressures could confirm it's benign.

@bocatrip
The other five culprits are less common. But if it isn’t that, I can share.

@Cee Jay , they say your memory is the second thing to go. I forget what the first thing is…

Who are "they"? And how do you know that you have memory problems if you don't remember what you forgot?

All I know at this stage is that everything is mind over matter. If she doesn't mind, it doesn't matter!
