Default A/C Unit Drain Clogged - 2010 XK

- Water poured out of my left-side of dash board area. Removed the blower motor. Discovered it came out of my A/C unit being filled with water. Read two different ways to fix. 1. Dealers way: Remove dashboard, very expensive. 2. Cheap way: Install a new drain tube. Drill hole in bottom of unit, epoxy fitting in, drill hole in transmission tunnel, install rubber hose. Thoughts? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Kevin,

My first thought is post XK/XKR specific issues in the XK/XKR forum so I've moved it.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. And in answer to your question, search for "duckbill", you will find a bazillion threads. Seems like the best way is to simply cut the duckbill off. This sounds easy, but access to it is difficult.

The part was changed from B34500 which is a little way in to the 2010MY.

Kevin, I had mine cut off, it was a pita since the transmission had to be dropped down a bit. As yours is a N/A car, it can be done from under the hood. I have a good Jaguar tech that can do it if you wish. Let me know.

Close all the vents. Turn the a/c on and blower on full blast. Turn the fan off for a moment then back on full blast. Do this numerous times and see if it works for you. It cost zip other than your time. This stolen idea came off this forum and it worked for me.

Your building up back pressure to blow the 'vent' line out doing this.

Kevin, I have a 2010 XK and solved this problem after lots of
painful effort. But if you looking at my posts you will find
a fairly easy solution. The Duck bill can be accessed
from the engine bay, but you must go under the carpeting
that they installed on the 2010's, I posted pictures a while back.

I still have issues with this and paid (about $600) for that thing to be replaced while in for service, which didn't really work.
FYI, I was told that the in-service date for my car was in October 2009, and it was one of the first of the 2010 XKR's sold here, and I think that it took part of that year for the problem to be addressed. Be thankful you don't have the issue. I've not had "water in the footwell" yet, but man I get some bitter, moldy odors sometimes. I mean it's BAD. I have thin arms, and have watched the various videos on the forum, and someday I'm going to just reach down and try to hack away at it a little bit and see what happens. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I've tried this. Question: better to have the A/C on or off when you do this? Also, what I do is go into climate control and make sure that the air is ONLY coming out of the main dashboard vents (not the footwell or the defrost area). In addition, I turn the heat up all the way. So my technique:

- shut off footwell and defrost vents
- close all dashboard vents
- turn the heat up to 83
- blast it for like five minutes

I do NOT use the recirculate function, nor to I turn on the A/C.
Is this the best way to try this technique?

I wrote that in 2018 and have since heard of it at least a few times.
Thread Resurrection can be bad at times.
