Default Can’t be this hard - front brakes

Can’t be this hard -

changed back brakes - no problems - have changed lots of brakes in my life - but can’t seem to get calipers off front — what’s the trick?

2012 XKR w/20” Kalimnos and red brake calipers. (See attached window sticker for options if needed)

I pop the front red cover / spring - no prob
i pop covers off of pins - no prob
i loosen and actually pull pins all the out - no prob

F#!&$# ing caliper doesn’t want to pull off - rotor spins, so not locked down - slightest wiggle - but no joy on removing

is there a trick I’m missing???

I don’t want to get the hammer out......

thanks for helping

Steve

Once you remove the slide pins the calipers should just slide off so I'm not sure what's causing yours not to move.
At a pinch you could remove the caliper bracket retaining bolts (15 mm IIRC) and take the whole assembly off, then see if you can pry the calipers off the brackets.
Apparently some have done this as their preferred method of changing the front brake pads, I tried it once on my old XFR but for the life of me I could not get the old brake pads out, the caliper bracket got in the way too much.
Conversely I have changed the pads and/or discs on the front 380 mm brakes on the old XFR and the current F-Type several times just by doing what you have done so far, and never had a problem with the calipers being stuck.
I suspect you are going to have to get the hammer out and give the calipers a small whack or two, I suggest you try a rubber mallet first!

A big screwdriver in the gap between the front of the caliper and the centre of the brake disc should give sufficient leverage to release it:

Have some string or wire ready to tie it up without stressing the flexi brake pipe. The caliper is a large, heavy brute.

I was replacing discs so the caliper carriers also had to be removed.
