Default Car turns on heated windows

Hi all

When parking my 2011 XK for short periods of time, ie. less than 1 hour, I notice that upon restarting of the engine, the front and rear windows heating wires are on. I can see it because the two yellow control lights on the respective buttons are on.
Btw, I do lock the car.

Is this a bug or is this some kind of feature?

In fact, when this happens, the mid car screen sometimes shows a wrong outside temperature, much to low.

Is this a bug that some of you also experienced?

From the handbook: "In cold ambient conditions, at the start of a journey, the front and rear screen heaters will switch on automatically for the timed period. The rear heated screen will come on below -1°C (30°F) and the front screen will come on below 5°C (41°F)."

I'd guess this is triggered by the low ambient temperature, perhaps the sensor needs to be replaced?

The mirrors will defog too. My rear kicks on around 41'f versus 30'f though. No front but the heater is kicking within a minute or two.

Glad you raised this as was wondering the same as less than a month of ownership and less than 2 weeks of having a handbook.

When purchased temps in the UK were above 10c now they are hovering around -1-5c at night, so have seen the same.

Clearly a case of RTFM!

Do it! The things one learns...did you know that if you use the paddles while in D (not S), you can go back to automatic mode by pulling and holding the + paddle for a second or so?

That applies to S as well as D. If you switch to manual by using the paddles in D and leave 'em alone for a while it'll automatically revert to auto, it won't in S.
