Be Careful!
About 30 minutes ago, I stopped at the local family owned pharmacy I use to pick up a prescription in Sherman Oaks. As I was parking my XKR, about 6 suspicious looking Antifa garbed people were coming down the street, walked into the pharmacy and headed behind the counter to where the drugs are stored and attempted to steal drugs. The pharmacist started screaming, and I was the only person between the counter and the door, so I tried to use my body to block them from escaping. One of the big stocky guys threw a linebacker running block on me and knocked me across the floor, and then the whole crew (about five or six including two young women) ran by me, out the door, and to waiting cars. Our Los Angeles mayor is a gutless idiot who will have people arrested for not wearing a mask at the beach but won't allow police to arrest or respond to violence, mayhem, and looting. And what purpose is the National Guard in Los Angeles, if they're not being used to maintain and protect society. Fortunately, I was not injured too badly, bloody elbows and a badly bruised left hip, but if I'd been more successful impeding their escape, I'm sure they'd have been more than happy to beat my 67 year old body to a pulp, and I'd probably be in a hospital right now.
We need to make our governments, city, state, federal, do their primary purpose which is protecting its citizens. Right now, that is not happening anywhere that I've seen in the country.
I'll put this in off topic next time, but I hate going to that part of the forum. XKR owners are my friends for the most part.

You're not alone. We have to deal with the incompetent, gutless mayor of NYC, comrade De Blasio. My wife works in Manhattan and they're starting to talk about reopening her office building. She's terrified of commuting into the city. COVID and riots! It's the end of days.
Free speech and the right to protest ends when looting begins. Elected officials who refuse to condemn looting and enforce the law condone criminal behavior, which does nothing but encourage more looting and crime. It's the beginning of open hunting season on all of us who are law abiding. Welcome to the United States of Anarchy.
Wake up, America. Don't reelect anyone who is an apologist for criminals. Without law and order there is no society and the winner will be the man with the biggest gun. That's why I gladly chose to serve my country - to protect our freedoms - and am appalled by today's un-American apologists.
Violonce is not the solution to our civil rights problem. It just makes it worse.

I'm glad to hear you are well. Next time perhaps leave the blocking to law enforcement. Is your welfare worth a handful of prescription drugs?
About your comments about Off-Topic. Couldn't agree more. I tried it for a bit but its just not my thing.
Keep well @tberg !

Thanks, guy. Unfortunately, I have never been one to just let things happen, I always get involved and have been hurt before stopping a graffiti vandal where I lost a couple of teeth. And our impotent Mayor Garcetti is preventing police from arresting looters, arsonists, and violence starters, and refuses to engage the National Guard. He'd rather arrest you for not wearing a mask to the beach than someone looting a store and then setting it on fire. I can't just stand by.

Since sometime last year, I see it getting closed or moved, and it makes me a bit sad.
Maybe the change in moderation is corporate policy, maybe someone showed up that likes to complain.
It does cause a bit of disconnect from my car to have it the new way.
The way I see it, we all in here have a camaraderie going, and to put something else in the OFF TOPIC area, lots of unknown members chime in. While not BAD, our tight-knit group of known people seems a bit more homey.
Sad to hear Tberg a scary experience that could have turned real bad , hope your ok mate . Only last week I had some toe rag try to steal tools from my van , I ended up with a nasty gash on my left arm in the wrestling match that persued but held on to him till help arrived . Totally agree with you all in keeping topics like this in the xkr section and not shoved to the side in "off topic" Moderation should be relaxed and not be all "Controling"
Tberg crazy world we live in. This orchestrated chaos needs to be stopped. National guard should be deployed in CA ASAP. Here in San Diego it's gotten pretty scary with burning and looting near by. Not sure how bad it will get before it gets better. Yet In my old town in South Dakota Sioux Falls (republican state) as soon as riots started NG was deployed ,and magic Order restored!, minimal damage ...Anyways stay safe, maybe carry pepper spray or a stun gun next time or better yet a handgun!

I was going to post two separate replies but I'll combine my response to the two posts with opposing but well expressed views on OFF TOPIC.
Glad to hear you were (relatively) unharmed. I can understand and empathise with the automatic reaction to intervene but there's a generation out there now who think nothing of using maximum force to get their own way.
Your feeling about OFF TOPIC is being expressed more frequently. It's a forum I don't choose to visit from choice but necessity.
We are primarily a JAGUAR forum. The idea of OFF TOPIC was for posting entertaining, diverting and sometimes risque material and opinions which had little or nothing to do with Jaguar. For many years it worked like that. Members made the majority of their contributions in the MODEL forums with a small proportion in OFF TOPIC. More recently we have had some members who consider OFF TOPIC is the important forum and for them the MODEL forums are either incidental or even totally ignored. A small but vociferous number appear to think they can be as rude and offensive to other members as they like which is not going to happen. It's not a change in moderation, it's a change in behaviour by a minority which has to be controlled.
I don't want to take this thread into a deep and lengthy discussion of another of our forums but feel it is relevant to make brief comment here.

One of the major considerations on pulling the trigger on my Jaguar almost five years ago, was the significant portion of Off Topic in this sub forum.

That sucks, fortunately have not seen that level of this issue in Tampa. Some regional nonsense but that is nuts for sure.
If it wasn't for offtopic might as well shut it down, gets pretty dull on here!

I understand you completely, Ted. It is difficult to standby and watch thugs wrack havoc on society. There are a lot of different ideologies at play during this time. The thugs, low life, and extremist are hijacking current events to openly vandalize and steal. I don't understand why the government isn't doing more to arrest the people causing these crimes to restore order. Peaceful protesting is good for change; however, there is a place for people who steal, loot, assault people and cause property damage.--jail. Our elected politicians have no ***** to act. As a landlord I've had to put up with some tenants taking advantage of my government's "no eviction" policy. Consequently, once some tenants became aware of the policy they stopped paying rent knowing I have no avenue to evict them. A lot of lazy, no good for nothing people will take every opportunity to cause havoc and steal given the chance. We have laws in society to deal with these problems--or, do we!
@tberg Thank you for your act of concern & effort for decency in society. Looting and destruction are never okay, no matter the reason. Period.
In my state the Governor and Mayors could care less about local businesses, those who work at them, and the landlords of those businesses. They can all go broke and suffer is their sentiment.
I had a friend come over on Sunday in his Ferrari. He was about to be harmed at a red light on his way over, but saw he was Indian (or not white rather) and cut him a little slack.

I saw this coming. 30% or more out of work + idleness + social media= rebellion and any excuse for it. The big one we will see after the race thing is over is the war between have's and have-nots, young vs old. The XK and similar look like expensive/elite cars because so little is known about them by the youth. Perception is reality. This is not the same world where you could drive a Rolls unnoticed. People will soon start taking note of the new disparity that never existed before and we have made it fashionable to openly blame others.
One of things on my bucket list was to drive my XKR cross country to CA and up the PCH. Guess I'll have to cross that one off the list. It's gonna be quite a while before the major metropolitan areas of CA return to normal, IMO.
one thing i want to stress to everyone: NOT ALL (car or home) INSURANCE POLICIES COVER DAMAGES DUE TO RIOTS OR GROUP MOB MENTALITY (sometimes even acts of war)
