CATS going bad?

CATS going bad?
Hi everyone, for a while now I have been hearing a 'ding' type noise from under the car. Same exact noise you get when the car is turned off and the metal cools down. Sounds like the left bank CAT.
Only now the noise occurs right from the start, every few minutes with the car warming up AND at operating temp. The car has felt sluggish and under powered around 2000 RPM recently also.
I had a P0430 code back in July but only once. Recently replaced spark plugs, still sluggish. MAF and filters clean. Fuel filter on has 4000 miles on it. Fuel pressure around 300 kPa and fuel trims within range (at idle and under load). I also run injector cleaner every now and then so I don't think its the injectors.
Is it safe to say I need a new catalytic converter? What is the cell count on the OEM ones and what are my replacement options? How can I confirm its a bad CAT?
Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the factory cat is a combo 400 CPI brick and another 400 CPI brick with the downstream o2 in between. It's really difficult to actually count the cells in a square inch but that's what cell count means. Also metallic media seems to be a little thinner than ceramic so they flow a tiny bit more. Per test, pull the cat pipes down and inspect them visually. You'll get a decent idea what's going on. They should be clean and have minimal core erosion.

I had a CEL when my CATS went bad at 29K miles and were replaced under warranty. See my old post #14 from 2011: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ing-cel-61749/
