No manufacturer name but one piece is stamped with some numbers. I'll post a pic tomorrow. Calling dealer in the morning (12:30 am here 😵 to get new one.
Have a sneaking feeling my recent original battery replacement may have something to do with it?? I am expecting some other little silly gremlins to start popping up. 😤

I don't think pieces would actually come off the thermostat and end up somewhere in the cooling system. The little rubber seal just sort of breaks up and dangles there, preventing the thermostat from closing properly.
The process of changing the thermostat on my XKR was pretty easy, requiring minimal hand tools. Basically remove the air intake tubing on the driver's side, then remove the coolant hose leading into the thermostat housing. That was probably the hardest part, but shouldn't be too difficult if you have a good set of locking pliers (which I did not have). Then there are 2 or 3 bolts holding the thermostat housing in. It comes off easily, and then you swap out the thermostat and the thermostat housing gasket, and put it all back together. Then you need to fill the coolant reservoir and then remove the supercharger fill plug (which requires a rather large hex socket) and replace the gasket/washer with a new one (order from dealer) and top that off too when the engine is warm.
Also one thing that was confusing reading the threads--the coolant outlet assembly on the XKR is made of aluminum and never needs to be replaced. On the XK it is plastic and should probably be replaced when replacing the thermostat.

Yep, just did mine today. Took about an hour tops and was not difficult at all. Had a bit of a scare when I fired her back up though. Message displayed "engine temperature indication" warning. Went away after a few minutes so I am guessing the coolant sensor was acting up or coolant was still flushing through the system.

Can an aluminum XKR replace the XK plastic one or are they different shapes? My 08 xk has small leaks at the manifold connections. I have had no warning but you can see the coolant leaks on the surrounding parts. The mechanic wanted ~$750 to replace it all but it sounds like it might be very simple even for someone not used to car work.
