Question Cigarette Lighter not working

Well, after years of driving the car I went to plug in a phone charger into the cigarette lighter only to find out there was no power being emitted from the 'socket'. I believe fuse 19 found in the engine bay fuse compartment belongs to the lighter, but in looking at it, the fuse is intact. Any suggestions as to what the cause may be? Thanks.

The manual for my '07 lists fuse 9 not 19 as the fuse for the 'Cigar lighter heater element'.

Have you tried it with the ignition on as I believe the socket is dependent on the inition. There maybe one in the glove compartment that is not and is always on.

Does your cigarette lighter work without the ignition being on.There has been threads on this in the past and it seems to vary on different models

Could barely light a cigar with that lighter in the XK; would lose its energy before I could get it lit.

Thanks for your replies fellas. I guess first thing is to check fuse 9 as opposed to 19. Maybe I'm a bit cross eyed or have a short memory…… mosesbotbol, perhaps retry the lighter with a shot of aged scotch to go along with your cigar. You might have better luck :] Woo5ie, yes my ignition was on at the time.

Well fuse 9 it is and its working. Went back into car and kept my finger on top of cig lighter and kept it pressed down as it kept on popping up. Kept it down and lifted it up after abt 4-5 sec and it was warm. Maybe wrong lighter as it won't stay in the down position and pop up when reedy?

I could be mistaken, but I vaguely remember reading in the manual not to use the cigar lighter for charging your phone, I think it suggests using the glove box one. My cigar lighter will not charge my phone but I was able to connect other things to it (ie an ozonator, iPod /radio hook up). So maybe try connecting something else and see if it works. Or maybe the phone blew the fuse??

This seems to be a funny issue. When I received my 2012 a few years back the lighter was not working and based on looking at the lighter itself it looked like it was never used. Then the socket in the glove box stopped working. So during my oil change I told the dealer and they had to replace both fuses . One in the engine compartment and one in the rear seat area. They both work now but it will be interesting to see if it blows a fuse in the future. I use the ash tray one for my plug in volt gauge.

Well its very interesting, my cell charger does not work in the cig lighter but other 'stuff' does and the lighter only works if I keep it manually depressed. No big deal, I don't smoke.

Check to see that the 2 tabs inside the socket are bent in slightly towards the center that should fix the reason it doesn't stay down
