2013 (wifes XK). Anyone ever try this project. Im guessing I will need to bake the headlight to release the mastic/glue on the headlight to get the cover off. Polishing the outside is half of its issue as there is gunk inside of the headlight.

 

Lots of people have taken the housings apart. Usually to modify them some way, but just a clean would be beneficial. Be VERY careful with the silver areas, the coating becomes very fragile and near impossible to repair.

 

+1 Even a light wipe with a microfiber can remove the coating. Suggest you blow deposits off.

 

yes just did it the will come apart first remove the stainless steel retainer clips then using a heat gun warm up the sealant use a flat blade screw diver and start separating the lens from the housing moving around as you go heat and separate they Will come apart it takes a little time do not touch any of the chrome it will rub off very easily if you do you can repaint the chrome with Metallic paint i painted mine the lens can be cleaned and polished to look almost new put them back together by reheating the sealant and push together while you have them apart install the eagle eyes in them and wire it to the small orange bulb power

i restore cars professional for many years take your time dont force them apart to fast head light section comes out easy but harder to put back any questions email me
