Default To comment or not to comment

I've noticed that on most of the posts where people ask for comments they usually only get positive comments. I also realize that most posters are proud of the work they've done or the cars they purchased. I usually don't see comments like ,that's not my style or that doesn't look good or other negative comments. So is the general consensuses that there is a fear of hurting one's feelings or if you make a negative comment then you would be labeled . Something like wheels where some like silver and others like black. Doesn't seem like there is a safe answer in todays world . Just curious so don't leave any negative comments , LOL

Well I have to disagree with you Jagtoes I have seen opinions that might not agree with OP on different items from time to time. But I know what your saying typical everyone either likes it or doesn't respond at all. I know I appreciate some constructive criticism sometimes... But I am just as guilty as the next guy in not wanting to come across as an a$$hole when I see something that I am not liking, so I tend to just not post. Maybe I will be a little more negative going forward...

  1. If I like something I'll say so
  2. If I don't like it I say so
  3. If someone has clearly put some work into their look I'll say so
Sometimes I'm surprised when something I'd not normally like seems oddly appealing.

We should be [and suspect that most are) old enough to take good and bad in equal measure, but it's great to see such a variety of tastes, especially those of different countries when it comes to colours/wheels/interiors.

Vive la difference!

I didn't want to offend anyone either.... I even stopped playing "Baby it's Cold Outside" when my car is in the garage. I guess it was implying that my wife should stay in the garage and my car come in the house so I could top off the fluids and rub her down...... sheeesh - everyone's so sensitive these days!!!

Nothing wrong with criticism or expressing an opposing view provided it's done the right way. The vast majority of the time this is what happens across our forums and we certainly do get polar opinions expressed about "upgrades" for example.

It's only when a reply is unnecessarily rude or deliberately offensive that we have to remind a member of the expected standards. A reasonable guide is if you wouldn't say it to someone's face then don't write it in a post.

Off at a slight tangent there are some posters I deliberately avoid purely because I don't like the way they post, in the real world we'd get on (though probably not). Those I try to avoid seem intent on exercising their intellectual superiority with rather odd references. So on a thread I've participated in, if I see they've made a new post I'll not go back to view it until someone else less inflammatory has posted a newer reply.

I don't get this...... people are protesting this perfectly innocent song when "B!t*h, I'll bust your *u$$*" is played on Rap stations all over the country.

(don't blame ME, I didn't name it)

Personally, I prefer the artistry of the negative compliment. For example, "Wow, I never would have wanted to put neon purple rims on an XKR, but they look good on your car!"

"I'm usually not attracted to women with crooked teeth, but they look just fine on you." Or, "You look really nice today - I almost didn't recognize you."

You must read the wrong threads.

Look for post on black wheels.

Or the wrapped/cut/winged XKR.

Perhaps since your own car is stock, the comments on the modifications are not as observed by you.

I believe for the most part those here are not demotivated by their own tastes and ideas meeting adversity.

Otherwise a choice of car that draws less criticism about its unreliability by those that do not know better would have been chosen.

Sometimes it is just not worth the effort to post a negative comment. Basically I don't like to post a comment just for the sake of posting something. I think it is best to post only when I can add something worthwhile to the discussion.

..... and then you have other people that post one thought in numerous posts just to pad their Post Count.

I like to destroy fake confidence and weakness with the gleam of my internet smile😄. Often, Im drinking a beer or two while tearing it up on the treadmill, when I visit this place. It’s like a pub. Im sure some of you guys have a couple here and there too. Some of us get real smooth, and quiet, while some of us go the opposite. Everyone has opinions, and the tone or level of intensity has its effect on people. I try not to be sensitive so I lack a sense of sympathy for able bodied people, with some brains. I do empathize with those who have real issues. Its 2019 pretty much, and people are softer than ever. Not me🧐

The title of this thread is "To comment or not to comment."

Chinese proverb: "Even a fish wouldn't get into trouble if he kept his mouth shut."

Too many people are too easily offended. Even more people are unwilling to say anything that might be considered offensive. Political correctness has emasculated free speech.

Criticism and disagreement is healthy because it provokes thought and discourse, provided it is respectful and not malicious.

Imagine a perfect world where everyone agrees with everyone else. War would be a distant memory. We would all think alike and be like everyone else. But that would be the end of humanity, because variety is the spice of life.

If you don't like what I have to say, tell me why. Otherwise, you're a coward. Reasonable people can disagree.

This world would be even prettier if we asked a simple question of ourselves:
'Am I being helpful by making a negative comment, or am I just trying to please myself.'
If its helpful then you should say something even if adversarial.
However, it amazes me how oblivious humans are in the quest for a cheap thrill at a significant expense to the other.

On matters that simply come down to personal tastes, well, if someone is obviously proud and happy with their car or what they've done I'm not too likely to criticize. But, if they ask for an opinion..... that's different

Cheers
