What kind of hardware is used by the specialists to connect to the computer? Any recommendations on third-party hardware available to the public?

 

Are you referring to connecting to the OBDII to read cars codes and perhaps erase them, to read/erase SRS codes or to connect and modify engine management systems?

 

SRS and EMS. Particularly SRS interests me I'm not trying to modify EMS. I do want to see what the computers are doing. I am a cyber security analyst for a fortune 50 company. I spend my days working with thousands of servers and super computers. I am curious. I want to see what kind of data or logs are generated. I want to see if the computer is logging errors etc. I am familiar with ODBII and can get those readings. Not interested in them currently.

 

Personally like OBDCOM. It works fine with my XK8, and provides some useful information. OBDCOM Diagnostic Systems for ALL vehicles very reasonably priced.


Of course there is no comparison to using HPTuners or EFILive with GM, Ford, etc where you can parse down to very detailed information. Unfortunately no support for Jaguar.
