having failed its WOF(annual safety check) on the lower bush on the rear shock absorber (amounst other items) I've purchase the part from a local suspension company after they crossed reference it against the Jag part number. As per the attached photo they is an "off-set" on each end against the centre rubber and barrel. In the absence of any prior experience of these type of parts and before I attempt to fit the same could someone advise is this is indeed the correct part, and possible the reason for the shape of this bush.
Also I Thank You to the forum (having read pass post from a couple of years ago) who correctly led to an easy and inexpensive fix on another failed item in so far as the indication and hazard lights on the right front not flashing. It was indeed just a faulty earthing point, nut came off in my hand. New drilled hole in the chasis, wire brush and new bolt, and all working like new.
It would appear that the confusion surrounding whether this is the right part is driven partly from the part being used over a number of different models and the part being superseded a number of times. A little bit cheeky have not purchased the part from the local dealership, but I told it into there parts department and they have confirmed that it is indeed the correct part. Also and rather embarrassingly the "offset" on the inner part of the bush that I previously questioned is nothing more than the normal play or movement in the design. I carefully placed it in a vice, stuck a bolt through the center and was with a little force able to move the inner shell. As per the picture below it now looks like all the diagrams on the internet!!
