Default Crackling/hissing noise from engine bay

Hello All,

Recently noticed a crackling/hissing noise from the engine bay on my 2010 XKR.

Car is operating ok , no warning lights on the dash etc

Nothing visible in engine bay to suggest leak of any kknd or torn cables

I have attached a couple of mp3 files recording the noise.

Wondered if anyone has come across this issue ?

Many thanks

Sounds like either a rubbing belt or bad accessory pulley bearings. I'd first check the idler pulley, that's the easiest thing to check. BUT, since the belt would be loose at that point anyway, the other pulleys could be rotated. All should be buttery smooth and nearly silent. It sounds a bit too tinny for water pump problems.

I now see you have two threads with this topic. Hopefully an Admin will combine them, or delete one.

Hi Cee Jay,

Many thanks for the reply. Weird part is that the crackling noise occurs when engine is off. Can hear it as i approach the car

I’m not getting much out of your clips.
Could be your ‘sounder’ going bad, if so, it’ll drain your battery.
Search this forum for ‘Geiger counter’, as that’s what others have reported what it sounds like.

Okay then, I didn't realize it was non-running. Guess that'd be obvious because no engine noise.
I'd go by what kj said in that case.
