Default A crackling noise from inside behind

Well, let me begin with the report. After 16,000km or 10,000 miles since having acquired my cat (I am its second owner, having imported it from beloved Switzerland), and after close to 60,000km during about 15 years in total, I felt it should have a maintenance reset. So had all fluids (including brakes, transmission, diff, etc.) and filters changed. So far, so good. After all, it should be a keeper.

Then, however, I had realized a crackling noise (not very loud, fluctuating, but just the decisive bit disturbing me when driving on less than perfect roads). So had the workshop check for reasons. They localized it in the inner parts of the car, coming from the right hand side trim on the inner side of the car. The big surprise: fixing it would require a new one from Jaguar, at a cost of 5,000 Euro (plus labor, of course).

Otherwise, I am absolutely happy with the cat, so I would like to ask those of you in the know: what alternatives would you recommend me to pursue to get this disturbance fixed?

Maybe some felt or foam to insulate/dampen the vibration?

Difficult to dsscribe (I am no native English speaker) / source of noise even more difficult to locate for me.
I would say the inner trim or “wall” on the right hand side of the rear passenger seats. Does this make any sense?

Thanks for your hints, anyway.
Have a good start into 2023!

Is the speaker blown up?
That's where it is, maybe shorted out or something.

Your Public Profile shows that you have a 4.2L 2008 XKR Convertible.

Does that noise happen when the top is up, down, or both? If the top isn't working properly, it's possible that the plastic sliding cover by the door broke and fell into the body cavity and is making that noise.

Could it be coming from the compartment where the soft top is stowed? Or from the spare tire compartment? It's possible that a foreign object got into that space and that's what you're hearing.

It is very easy to remove the rear seat back and bottom to inspect that area. It's also very easy to inspect the spare tire well.

It's not possible to determine if your mechanic's diagnosis is accurate without a description and Part Number of the expensive part he wants to replace. Why can't he repair it?

You said it's not a loud sound, but it's annoying. Instead of spending a lot of money, I'd simply turn up the music volume and enjoy the ride!

Good luck!

Apologies, I wasn't very helpful.
Something from this diagram?
https://jaguarpartsestore.com/2007-j...rails-4740120/

In viewing some of those prices... I'd investigate having the part custom manufactured.

Dear All who have attempted to help.

Two things:

1. I am glad I invested in t he comprehensive service and fluid changes. The cat (including the transmission / gear changes) is running as smoothly as brand new again.
2. As to that “crackling noise” - I am now putting the cat to sleep for the few winter months and will revisit the issue thereafter. I will follow-up on the hints you offered and will report.

To all of you, all the best in 2023.!
