Default "Cruise Control Unavailable"

Got that message a couple of times when starting the car from cold. Is this yet another sign that the battery is going home? After a restart the cruise works just fine.

I do not have adaptive cruise so it cannot be a sensor issue.

what's the year and model?

Yeah a dying battery can trigger it. A blip in an OBD II bluetooth plug in can cause it. What code is it throwing? Were you doing any work on the car recently?

I get this almost any time I'm working on the car. If any of a dozen sensors don't register properly this happens. Most recently it was when I had the TPMS radios disconnected while swapping out my nose.

The time before that it was because I forgot to plug in the button on the console to toggle the speed limiting feature (after pulling the console to run some wires).

It's a 2008 XKR. I'm not seeing a check engine light at all. I just get this message immediately after the car starts. I've not had any work done lately.

It may well all be moot as I have found an XJ I might be buying instead.

Best of luck to you on the XJ. I went the other way. I had the X350 and made the switch. Very glad to be holding the X150. What year XJ are you chasing?

I'm looking at a low mileage 2012 short model. It has the exterior and interior combination that I think is perfect for the car. Cashmere gold with the cashew/truffle interior complete with wood rimmed wheel. Classic Jag for me.

agentorange,
Ever since I got the Eurocharged tune about 8 or 10 months ago, every time (not just when it's cold) I start the engine I get the warning Cruise Control Not Available. It disappears after 3 or 4 seconds, and to tell the truth since I don't ever use the cruise control, I don't know whether or not it's "available."

About a month ago Dec-2016, our 2007 XKR started posting "Cruise Control Not Available" on the DIC when the car is first started for the day. No "Check Engine" lamp or DTC's. Later restarts the message is gone and the CC works OK.

I have done nothing to the car to disturb wiring or sensors. After all these years of owndership, not sure why it is happening now. Cannot find a relevant TSB's. Hard to fix these electronic gremlins unless they break all the way. And it is not annoying enough to drive 1+ hr to drop off at the dealer especially since problem is transient. I will be interested if anyone finds a solution.

If it might be power-related there are lots of posts about going over the various ground points, checking for battery drains etc. Just read and DIY

I've been getting this intermittently for the last month or so.
I started out on a long road trip last week and it triggered within the first hour so I pulled over, restarted, and it was fine for another hour until it triggered again. This continued until I was getting gas near my destination and the rear brake bulb out error showed up on the screen disabling the cruise control completely.
It is way too easy to go above the limit without cruise control.
As soon as I got there I bought a new bulb, along with deep 7mm socket, and replaced it.
After that I had no issues with cruise control while I was there or on the way back. Maybe the weak bulb was bad enough to throw off the cruise control but the bulb error didn't show up since it still mostly worked.

I think I had this once and it was a blocked radar sensor (adaptive cruise control). You might want to take a look and see if you have any obstructions up front.
