Default Crying Time

I noticed that 07 and up XKs are becoming more plentiful on the mkt. at prices I can begin to afford. I've lusted after an XK coup since before I bought my 05 XJR over 2 years ago. So I take my nearly perfect, by God 5 footer, whisper quiet, meticulously maintained, 05 XJR with 65,000 miles over to Tampa and start looking at XKs.

While I'm nursing a woodie over the 07 and 08 XKs I'm being shown the dealer sales staff is crawling all over my car. I hear in the background; Why does he want to sell this? Are those new tires? I've never seen such perfect wheels at 65K. Has this car been repainted? We can sell this heap in 3 days. Jesus, Joseph & Mary, this things faster than the XK. Has it ever been outside before?

So to get to the point. They offered me $18,000 for the best 05 XJR in the state. It looks like I,m never going to have an XK. I could just cry. Boo F---g Hoo Hoo.

Tarhealcracker - I know what its like to lust after somwething for long n weary too, so I can sympathise, but, please just remember this.......

Kind of begs the question as to whether you'd regret it at some stage as you probably know every nut n bolt and it seems in mint condition.......cars like that are hard to come by!

I was / am in a similar position I guess.
Around a year or so ago I staretd looking at A8 4.2 Tdi Quattro's with a view to trading up my A6.......I've seriously looked after her and anything she's needed she's got, including 3 different sets of new rims in 4 yrs, religiously serviced and maintained regardless of cost.
When I found out the trade in and how much I'd lose....I thought no way.
I decided to extend but slash the payments by 2 thirds and will keep her for another 2 years maybe, and then probably as a daily driver as she will owe me nothing.
Then, perhaps get my toy I've always wanted, although the XKR is comoing more n more into my thoughts.

Whatever you decide I hope you get what you want

Well I guess I've got it sorted out in my mind. MJA XKR is right. "Life is short". I am therefore going to get the "beloved" XJR on the mkt. this week.
For the past 15 years I have just traded in my old cars on the new ones because it offered a hassle free way to do business even if I took a hit on the value of the trade in. In this particular case, "the hit" is a bit more than I can stomach.
Dang! I wish there was a way to afford 2 Jags.

Just like in your description, I also traded my mint '05 for an '08. Same dealer reaction;

"Why would you want to trade THIS car for the other? You should sell it yourself, it will be gone in no time..."

In my case I purchased the '05 for a killer price and got nearly that in the trade in. So, it was easier. For the '08, mint condition, I paid nearly full retail so, it is going to hurt when I trade it in a few years for an XJL. But, life is short and no regrets...

Best of luck in whatever you decide. Now that I'm part of the Jaguar family, I have to say it's going to be tough to look at other brands. I'm loving my XKR more and more every day. No matter what you end up with - enjoy it!!

Ironic. Last week I test drove a black on black, 42k mile 2005 XKR for sale at a used car dealer. It was visibly and mechanically in need of some TLC (which the dealer contended not to be apparent). I arrived at the lot, parking my beautiful silver 03 450+ hp S-Type R directly in front of the XKR. I walked a short distance and turned around to see this beautifully maintained beast of an STR. I test drove the XKR with the "Malfunction Suspension" and "Air Bag" warning lights on for a mile or two, returned to the dealer lot, allowed the shifty dealer five minutes to spill his bull on how his abused 05 XKR is in perfect running condition, then eagerly drove off for home, wasting a 2010 Dodge Charger SRT8 on the way. One day I hope to have an XKR...as a stable mate for my 03 STR.

You just have to buy them "right". I have an '01 XJ8 which I bought in 2005 with 57,000mi on it for $13900. I still have it. My 16 year old son drives it to school every day!... He doesn't know how good he has it! It now has 121,000 mi on it. Last fall I bought a my dream car... a 2007 XKR coupe - had 29,000 mi. Perfect condition. Window sticker (which was still in the glove box) was over $96,000. I bought it for $45,000. For that money, it's my daily driver. I know it's fun to drive a new car, but I happily let someone else eat the depreciation.
