Default Dash Carpet

My dash leather has been pulling and bulging for a while. It really bothers me.

Since I’m not in love with this particular auto, parting with the requisite monies to repair it is not in my game plan.

I’m actually considering purchasing a ‘dash carpet’ from cover craft or similar.

Has anyone seen one and how bad or good do they look and function?

Opinions please.

WJ

it hasn't shrunk too far.

Agreed about terrible.
It might be less objectionable to my eyes than looking at the leather...don't know for certain at the moment.
I'll post a picture of how bad it has pulled and see what everyone thinks.

Alright, I think it is too far pulled and too hard to get good results, short of replacing the dash top or removing for serious stgretching etc.
Here it is, I hope I'm mistaken, if not the carpet mat may be an alternative temporary solution. My eyes are starting to focus on this most times my GF isn't in the car.

FIXABLE,

the leather needs to be lathered up with lots and lots of conditioner, after its covered
in conditioner you can leave it in the sun for a short while then re-apply.
you can even use hair conditioner for this (similar properties to leather conditioner)
then you need to keep pulling it and working with it over time, its not a 1 day fix.

you need the right glue, very important.. a leather glue needs to be applied underneath
The center speaker cover needs to be removed prior to re attaching to below the windshield
be mindful not to crack this while removing it.
for the leather edge that goes right under the windshield, I actually used superglue because
it dries much faster then other glues.

I had a carpet dash cover back the 80's but haven't seen one since. If they even make one to fit this car I can't imagine it would look good. An interior trim shop may be able to give you an idea on cost to repair.

A question here...... if ANY conditioner was applied to the leather, wouldn't that make any glue-type adhesion completely impossible? No glue I know would stick to soft gooey conditioned leather.

Just google “Jaguar XK dash cover”, you find lots of them.

Oopsies, I've opened the leather conditioner can of worms..

don't put any conditioner on the under side where you will be applying glue.

Thanks folks. I'm not going to attempt a fix unless my ws gets broken. Then I would handle this. And yes CeeJay too much conditioner will moisten the entire leather, top to bottom. Hopefully not using one that would contain any silicones or oils.
