Default Deer damage... left front fender

Hi guys... first yes I tried doing a search but didn't find what I was looking for (plus most were older threads).
Anyway, I'm driving and a deer RAN INTO ME! Wasn't in front of me, just ran out and into my left fender. The fender is toast, and the only other damage is the headlight cover got cracked.

I know... just file an insurance claim. Thing is, last year EX-GF took my car when I was sleeping for work and took out a deer... $26K damage to the car! It was fixed and looking great again, until this happened. I'm afraid if I make a claim my insurance will drop me. Since the damage does seem to be minor (is there any such thing as 'minor/inexpensive' damage to a Jag??) I'm thinking about repairing out of pocket. I have no problem with a used fender, but not finding any. Does anyone know of any places/resources for used parts?

WHB64,
That sucks. We have them running all around here during rutting season.
IIWM, I would just put a comprehensive claim into your insurance, and see what happens.

i guess I am lucky, in that my significant other, for whatever reason, won’t drive my XK.

John

Sorry to hear about the damage. Someone backed into my 03 and dinged the left front fender. I couldn't believe the repair cost. I took the cash payout for $9k. Found a slightly worn, color match fender for 200 and solved the problem. An 03 is a bolt on fender. For a one piece XK/R aluminum body, wouldn't any out of pocket repair costs be astronomical? Will an insurance company drop a customer if they just open a claim and get an estimate? I don't think so but no experience.

John LOL. My wife won't drive my XKR. Too much power, too loud. She's a Lexus gal.

Ignorance is bliss. Hope I don't have to worry about crash damage. If OP is going out of pocket on repairs, hopefully it's not 9k. Mine included 4k for a new fender. Insurance companies usually total the car if cost to repair is more than value of car. I think mine paid out because they couldn't get comps. Not complaining of course.

Thanks for the up beat comments guys. What happened last year is a LONG story, but yeah it was a nightmare. That's why I am asking about places to get used parts. The headlights alone OEM from a Jaguar certified parts place is almost $4K if you can believe that, and I found genuine fenders (new replacements) for $1300 cheapest price.

I did find a headlight out of a wrecked car for $599, just can't find a fender. From what I read on here in some older threads, replacing the fender is a few bolts and should take around an hour. The headlight itself works, just the cover is cracked. I'm not sure if the guts can be transferred to a new housing or if it's all sealed. I know last year the car had to go to the dealer to have the new headlights programmed. Like I said, everything works, no mechanical damage, just the fender and cracked cover.

Even if your current insurance dropped you, there are literally hundreds of other companies that would take your policy. Even if they'd charge more, it'd take a LOT more to make up for ten grand worth of repairs.
I say, report it and let insurance do their job.

Agree w/ Cee Jay. Before you go looking for parts and doing repairs, ask your insurance company first. You haven't mentioned your deductible. Could also get quotes from local shops so you have a starting point. My insurance cash payout was 9k. Quote was 1.8 to fix w/ me providing a good fender. Headlight ok. Sold the car as is and got a total of 13k for a worn 03 XK8 that needed lots of attention.

Price sounds like adaptive headlights. Are the basic ones as expensive?

I'm waiting for a call back from the insurance company. If I didn't have a big claim last year I wouldn't even hesitate on putting one in. My home owners and other vehicles are on the policy too, which is why I don't want to get dropped.

Last year I was finding good condition used parts everywhere (the body shop refused to use them though), this year I can't seem to find any now.
Update: Insurance company called and was really hesitant to say for sure, but if I make a claim I probably will be dropped.

I have a house and multiple cars w/ same insurance company. What does "drop" mean? Just because you've submitted another claim? As far as I know, insurance companies can only raise the rates or not renew. If my company somehow hinted at this w/o even knowing size of possible claim, I'd change companies. If they're going to play games on car damage, what happens if something major happens to your house?

Suggest get some quotes on repairs w/ used and new parts. Can go back to your insurance w/ numbers and see what they do. The risk is that they raise the rates or not renew. No personal experience. I'd also shop for another insurance company. Agree w/ Cee Jay that plenty of other companies want your business. The question is at what cost.

I am in agreement with others about insurance. Remember, you are the customer, no matter how much crap they dish out. I have my policies, homes, motorbikes, cars through a local broker. He shops for the best policies. I haven’t had any claims so far.

Well they said I certainly can file the claim and they will cover, but said there are very high odds they will drop me. I'm still looking for a used fender, but also shopping for a now insurance company.

Well then, you currently have a crappy insurance company. Maybe it's best you find a new one.
Five years ago I had my home roof replaced due to hail, along with all the gutters and window screens and some wall treatments. Cost was almost $50k. Later that year I had the roof on one of my rental homes replaced due to wind damage which was only $15k. A total outlay on my behalf of $65k and they were happy to renew my policy. I've not had an automobile claim for over 25 years.

Yeah seems I do. They wouln't commit 100% saying I' be dropped, just said multiple claims within a 2 year period usually promotes a 'review' and that usually means cancellation of coverage.

Every place is different, but my company views deer hits as "acts of god", like hailstorms. No claim of fault.

Yeah the last one was a no fault, but they are saying 'multiple claims, even if no fault' … I am checking into Erie Insurance

Use parts seem to be drying up. Once I get this fixed and the 944 S back on the road (needs a ball joint), the S will be my daily and the XK will be the 'special occasion/date' car Even at that though... not much you can do when a deer runs into you! The big issue is last year when the EX-GF took the car, she hit one deer and did damage a little more than like this time, then down the road creamed a big buck and took out the other side, front bumper cover, grill, both headlight, and hood. Hence the $26K in damages. I will say this, these cars are TOUGH. All that damage and no frame damage, no mechanical damage, all cosmetic, and it was at least an 8 point she hit. IF she hadn't taken the car, wouldn't have happened and this would be my first claim. There's a reason why she's 'Ex' Anyway, these cars may be expensive to repair, but they are TOUGH as well as fast and elegant! The S is like driving a race car, the XK is like driving a luxury race car that is more refined.

I just confirmed with my agent, for Travelers, that a deer hit, is covered. Minus any deductible, whether I hit the deer, or the deer runs into my vehicle, I am covered.

You may want to check into an agreed value policy like Hagerty. I have found this policy to be a good value as long you have another car as your primary vehicle.

I get the feeling that there is a pretty good story behind that line. LOL.
