Trust me, add $20 to the basic cost to cover travel time, shipping materials and postal overruns. Buyer pays USPS postal quote. You'll about break even over time.

Laser cutting is often still CNC. CNC is a method for obtaining repeatable motion rather than a cutting method.

CNC Laser

CNC Mill

CNC Lathe

Etc...

I rarely see shops laser cutting without having it as part of a CNC setup.

Cool thread Texas Traveler, I hope your end result is satisfactory, it is a part you glance at rather than look at so it should work out.

Very cool TT!
My vents aren't broken (yet) but I will be interested in these when they do.

Laser or water jet was easier machining processes versus router or mill when dealing with thin sheets of material. Laser is probably the best because it doesn't put force on the material. Router or mill is going to have trouble holding the part. Flame doesn't work with aluminum and plasma doesn't cut really clean like a laser.

For a small run from a home shop environment, sandwich the panels and use wooden guides and a trim router would work with minimal clean up. All depends on how much hands on the OP wants to get.

Personally @ $200 for a 4x8 sheet of 16 ga 6061 and an hour or two of machine time for a stack of ready to package parts is a good deal.

I would be very interested in buying a copy of these vents. How is the progress going?

I picked up first set and needed a couple of small adjustments to get it perfect. Should find out this week what the final cost will be and I will update with any new information I get...

Well I finally have what I believe will be the final set of the defrost overlays. I had the shop make some adjustments to make it as close to perfect as possible. I went ahead and wrapped the set with some wrap I had. As you can see I did bend the pieces slightly to mimic the curve of the dash. I will put some very thin double sided tape on the back side and install tonight when I get home to assure it is a good fit. I have spoken with the shop and it looks like the price for these per set if anyone is interested will be $70 of course you would need to add shipping cost for me to get them to you... They would be just the raw material, not wrapped or painted, that would be up to you to decide how you want to finish them... Once installed tonight I will try and get a few pics to show you them installed in car...

Here are some pics of them just lay d in place, not taped down yet. They fit really well even without tape...
hard to get good pics... Keep in mind the black piping you see is from when I had dash staples that was used to hide staples, so ignore that...

I need to know who wants a set of these so I can determine how many I need made. So send me a PM with your Name and Address, so I know you want a set. I have PayPal account or QuickPay with Zelle on my banking App, to accept payment. Again as it stands right now they are $70 plus whatever shipping will be depending on your location. I will use a delivery company that will provide a tracking number for you. Any other questions let me know...

Aaron

Mine arrived today! I'll need to gently bend a little to match the contour of the dash before wrapping. Thank you Aaron.

Oh man! Got busy with work and forgot about this thread. TT, do you still have these ‘in stock’?
Not that I need it now, but seems like a good purchase for future use.

I can get more made just let me know... it looks like I can ship to most places in us for $20 making them $90... haven’t checked any shipping prices for ROW but don’t think it would be much more for anyone that may need them... If you want a set just PM me your name and address, once you do that I get a set made. Once I have them in my hands I PM you for payment, once payment is received I try and ship that same day. Again I am not making anything on these just doing it for other forum members as a kind of pay it back type of thing, for all the help I have received and future help and advise that I know I will receive. Just trying to contribute...
