This what a forum is for, users making mods or undertaking basic maintenance in an innovative way...if I wore one I'd doff my cap to you TT

I may well order a set to be delivered to my brother in KY (who's coming over to blighty in Dec) even though I don't actually need them!

As discussed in heuristik thread, https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...w-vent-209713/

I have had the front dash vents made up. Got a couple of pics from my machinist today and will go pick them up tomorrow to do a test fit to see how they fit and of course how they look in the car. So, the guys that need these two front vents we may have a solution for those by the end of the week. Cost for a pair of these two vents looks to be $60 that will include shipping to most places...

So I gave the front vents a test fit tonight and found a couple things. The good is the fit is good. The bad is the slot angles are off slightly which is an easy adjustment. But with it just being a flat piece it doesn’t contour down into the hole enough to cover the raw edges of the leather inside.. So Im thinking that the slots have to become smaller so that the outside edge is wider therefore not seeing as much inside, which may not look as good or use a black grill cloth material on backside to make it where you can’t see through but will still allow air to come through... would love to hear everyone’s opinions or ideas.

How about reducing the slot width to about an 1/8" end mill and put in a lot more slots. Are you having this done on a CNC mill , if so it should be easy to program in as many slots as you want. It may also look a little better. Also once you get the final design you could most likely get someone with a 3d printer to scan and make it out of plastic. Nice job. Just a thought.

Is the original plastic vent, flat like your machined one, or is there sort of a tube on the backside that hides the leather edges from view?

It is like you say sort of a short tube that goes in maybe 1/2" also the slots themselves have depth and are cut on an angle so that looking in is harder to do.

Tex great job. As I mentioned a while back during my old Ferrari days we would usually have parts NLA and had to be made. A guy on our form started making a few parts (like you are doing) just so the community could get replacement hard to find parts. He expanded and started a little business on the side. He called his business "Unobtainium Supply Co. " Unobtainium Supply Co.—HOME . It helped out the community and as more parts failed we would suggest what should be made. So keep it up and we'll see how the future will sort out what parts should be replicated. Thanks for your effort.

Playing around a little this morning with some wire mesh I have, as somewhat of a filter to hide what you can see through slots... Looks pretty good, going to see if that would be enough to hide whats inside vent.

That mesh looks pretty good, probably needs to be removable/replaceable so the vent cover can be painted/wrapped as desired (not that wrapping would even be possible).

Paint it either black or charcoal and see how it looks.

Looks like the wire mesh does a pretty good job of hiding the inside of the vent.... You have to really look hard to see anything...

Nice Job.

The Demist grills have angled vanes, so you will loose some performance unfortunately under fogging conditions.

They look good though. Mine have the snaps broken so are just sitting in there now.

Note to self - don't break your vents....

The fix looks nice. Hope I never need to make use of it. Thanks for all of your work to help yourself and your fellow Jag owners!

I wrapped on window vent just to see what it looks like... I have to say these small vents are hard to wrap, painting them or plasti dipping might be a better option. Also, just FYI for anyone that might want a set of defrost vents or the window vents, please pm me... the young guy that I had make these is willing to make as many as needed right now but you know how that goes here today could be gone tomorrow...

Nice work on the wrap TT! where can I find the mesh you used. I'm thinking about adding it to my defrost vents.

Also, can you take a pic standing back a bit with OEM and your vent side by side? looking at the latest pic, your vent looks nicer than the OEM but would like to see them side by side if you can.

It's just some mesh that I found laying around, not sure where it came from to be honest... I could send you two small pieces if you like, just pay for the shipping which would be less than $5. But with the OEM vents being more of a 3D piece, the mesh would be further into the hole, not sure you would see it?

Hi TT,
I broke my defrost vents fixing my pulling leather dash? Are you able to get your vent designs made for others? Thanks.
