Difference between 3.5 and 4.2 XK?
Hello Guys,
I just registered, live in Geneva and want to buy an XK from 2006 up.
I am aiming for a 06-07-08 model. i have found two kind of engines the 3.5 with 258hp and the 4.2 with 300hp.
Can someone explain the difference between them?
Fuel economy?
Do you really notice the extra 50hp?
Why would they launch this less powerful version'
Thanks

Never knew that engine was an option? Most be for other markets. I would bet there is a huge difference in performance. Even the 4.2 is not going to throw you into your seat. It has enough power for regular driving and is a joy as a daily. Very well put together and looks just so amazing.
I have shown the XK and few British car days, and when parked next Vantages, most people thought the the XK was just better looking, FWIW.

Welcome to the forum, when you get a moment stop by or new members area and introduce yourself.
The 3.5L XK was sold in European markets because of some tax issues, a 4.2L costs more to register because of engine size, so the 3.5L was sold in Germany, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, etc.
The X350 XJ also had the 3.5L available in certain markets.
Yes it's down on power compared to the 4.2L, not sure if there is any real difference in economy to be seen. In the XJ it was basically the same performance as the old 3.0L V6, but with V8 burble and slightly better economy.
