With Jaguar production in the UK already halted, my local Jaguar Dealer Sales contacted me twice in the last three weeks encouraging me to consider the purchase of an available new F-Type Coupe before the big road tax increase in April. I'd been looking at one before Christmas but concluded it was no replacement for my XK and I don't need a third car.
At the beginning of last week the Service Department wrote to confirm they were open as usual. Two days later, an eMail advised they would collect, service, sanitise and deliver my car to help comply with "social distancing" recommendations. This morning I received another eMail advising the dealership is CLOSED until further notice. This from the largest Jaguar Dealer distributor in the UK.
On a brighter note, S N G Barratt in the UK emailed yesterday to say they are open for business and have a massive inventory. Between SDD and parcel delivery, I therefore don't envisage difficulty coping with anything short of a transmission failure. Never understood the workings of that box of tricks.
Hope everyone is keeping safe in these increasingly strange and difficult times.

Here in the U.S. all repair shops can stay open. I'm not sure about new car sales, but I'm not planning on buying a new car anyway. Jaguar has had financial difficulties before this world wide crisis. We'll have to wait and see how things will turn out.

Wait. I saw pics of your tour of the transmission plant Graham. From my many years in IT Program Management, and several years before that as a mechanic, once you've seen it done, you are now the new resident expert.
My dealer is still open for business. In fact they just sent me an email yesterday to remind me of their "$1,000 Spring Sales Event Bonus Credit". Not much of an incentive in these troubled times if you ask me.
Maybe not entirely grinding to a halt, but switching production to meet the demand for critically needed medical equipment and disposable supplies. And you need to eat, so food is still being produced and distributed. And eating, well ...
Our lives have changed because hoarders have turned common, everyday goods like toilet paper into valuable commodities. Poker will now be played with Potty Limit rules!
For anyone interested, my office building maintenance supply provider sent me 200 rolls of toilet paper that I have been doling out to friends and relatives in need. Anyone in SoCal finding themselves a little short, I'll be happy to send some your way. Otherwise, I might have to set up a toilet paper stand at the corner of Wilshire and Westwood Blvds. with a For Sale sign. Now, if I could just trade for some hand sanitizer, my wife would be very happy.
I had one of my colleagues advise that she's unable to collect her brand new SUV (Honda CRV AWD) purely because she is unable to contact her insurance company and add it to her multi-car policy.
Dealer was unable to help with any driveaway insurance, so the car now sits at the dealership until this crisis is over.
My job is managing a retirement complex (independent elderly) with an average age of 83 (many in their 90's) and a plethora of high risk medical issues many are self isolating. All of them agree that they've not seen the like of this in their lives.
As of yesterday I was sent home (on full pay) and until they set me up with VPN access only have telephone contact with my charges....which takes all of 2hrs....so plenty of time for car washing and DIY
On the hoarding issue I went to my local supermarket on my way to work (7am Monday) to buy a sandwich, the queue was prodigious with trolleys overflowing, what they all (excepting the workers like me that just had a sandwich in their hands) had in common was that they were pensioners...who really should know better
On hand sanitiser front, my understanding is that it has to be 60%+ alcohol, I've only seen 2 brands that actually state the alcohol %??
I live in the centre of Durham in the North East of England. It's a World Heritage Centre and University city, usually very busy with students and tourists. There are over 20,000 students at the University (up from 5000 when I was a student here in the 70's). Most of them have gone home and the only ones left are those from Far Eastern countries who are not able to get home. Naturally tourism has stopped and the city is now eerily quiet.
I usually only hear the Cathedral bells on a Sunday when there is no traffic noise but yesterday I could hear the clock chime at each quarter of the hour.
Don't have a photo with the XK but this was one of my earlier XK8 Coupe's. It's 365 steps to the top of the central tower and worth it for the magnificent view from the top.

The local Aston Martin - Lotus dealer sent out an email saying the showroom is closed, and service is open on appointment. They'll pick up and drop off the car if required. No emails from any JLR dealerships I can recall.

My understanding on sanitizer is that 60% figure is as a final product. Generally that means it should be 90% to be mixed in combination with the other products in it.
No need to worry about the shortage of hand sanitizer. Just do like the Russians. To do a Russian full body sanitize from the inside out, all it takes is two minutes and two bottles of Smirnoffs. That cures everything, permanently.

You're actually pretty close. You can use a mix of isopropyl alcohol and aloe vera gel and viola, hand sanitizer. If no isopropyl, than a high proof vodka works just as well!
Cee Jay, your method works externally for a short time, and you have to keep repeating it. For the permanent cure, do the Russian vodka treatment just once and you'll never have to worry about COVID-19 or anything else again.

Another reason why they are allowing Liquor stores to stay open!
Having listened to numerous Blitz and other comparisons to the Second World War, I believe Britain and her automobile industry is going to survive. I lost family members in the Blitz and my father was lucky to survive being an RAF pilot, but that was with a visible enemy, this is not. This is a 'fifth column' from within. This is an unknown and misunderstood enemy that doesn't drop bombs and doesn't have landing craft on the beaches. This is an invasion that cannot be stopped, but can be dealt with by national resolve. To quote Sir Winston: 'you ask what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory; victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.'
That was my 2005 XK8 Final Series 4.2-S Coupe - the same specification sold as Victory Edition in the USA. It was my second XK8 (first was a 2001) and was replaced with a 2007 XK Coupe. sadly, we'll not see the likes of the X100 or X150 again from Jaguar.
The way things are going, we may not see much more of Jaguar in the UK. They have gradually moved manufacturing to China and mainland Europe. The Covid-19 crisis could be the push/excuse they need to abandon Coventry entirely as a manufacturing base.

And logically move it all the China, famous for being the originating point for Covid-19 and (IIRC) Bird Flu...and of course no 53, the house special fried rice!
