DIY oil change
I got my evacuator plus and oil filter from Amazon Saturday and did the DIY oil change Sunday afternoon. It was like TheMCP stated... very quick and no mess. It was awesome! I've done all my oil changes in the past (BMW - pretty easy, Ferrari 308 - not bad, Porsche - somewhat of a pain) and evacuating my 2010 XK was a breeze! The price of it has gone up since his post (approx $90 now) but the $$$ it will save me...
Just wanted to let you all know the 5.0L DOES have a BOLT to drain the oil from the oil pan, however they don't call it a "drain plug" its called something else, but is exactly
the same... I change my oil using this. it is vertical instead of horizontal but it is in
fact in the lowest point of the oil pan.

What I failed to anticipate was that the warmed up oil softened the plastic tube and the pump pressure blew off the tube and sprayed several quarts of oil all over my floor. Tough cleanup, lesson learned :-).
I have found Lubegard Flush to be an indispensable tool when using the evacuator.
It makes the oil flow super easy and the amount of sludge removed is significant.
Regardless, I pour slowly 1/2qt of new oil down the oil filter opening and it pushes out every last drop of the old oil.

On 2010+ XKR engines, the oil filter gets buried by the supercharger and tubing. Trying to fit a strap wrench around the oil filter housing cap is not as easy as the NA versions where the filter cap is more accessible. Worse yet, is trying to get the cap torqued on properly [25nM or 17 ftlbs] is difficult to do with a strap wrench that keeps sliding off the oil filter cap.
Do yourself a big favor and spend $7 for a 90mm 16pt {15 flute} 3/8" drive oil filter wrench. I got one shipped free from Walmart.

It doesn't make any difference.
Did you use any special adapter to connect plastic pump tube to the oil evacuation tube to make sure a tight fit?

Just find some clear vinyl tubing that fits and the suction on that side of the pump helps it stay on. The discharge side of the pump has a tendency to swell and pop off since it is also pressurized. Definitely use a hose clamp on it.
I have a 2015 XF 3.0 AWD and I want to purchase an oil extractor pump. Since the filter is on top of the engine, it seems like a no-brainer to do everything topside.
My concern is the 'dipstick' tube outer diameter measures 1/4" - really tight to be able to feed a tube down to suck out the oil.
And from researching these extraction devices, it seems 1/4" (outer diameter??) is the smallest tube readily offered.
Is it necessary to modify the setup with a smaller diameter tube? If so, who sells such a tight diameter tube? I'm also thinking, by the time you account for the suction tube wall thickness, I wouldn't expect there would be much inner diameter left in which to draw up any oil?!?
Or is it, once the engine warms up - between the heat and lubrication from the oil, the 1/4" pick-up tube can still be pushed down to the bottom of the oil pan?!?

Plus yes, the oil does need to be warmed up at least a bit or it will be too thick for the pump to properly suck it all out.
Docman - You are in the wrong forum. You have a 15 XF with 3 litre engine. This is the XK/XKR forum all of which have 5.0 litre engines. Perhaps a moderator will move your post to the correct forum where you will be able to get more appropriate responses to your issues.
This is an old thread, not surprised the link expired. I buy my replacement oil filter cartridges from Rock Auto - a good selection.
The only place, other than the dealership, I found Castrol Edge Professional 0W-20 is here https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-.../ge525771ldsp/
This oil has a dye in it to help find leaks. The dealership told me that the regular full synthetic Castrol Edge 0W-20 is fine.
When doing an oil change, I usually do half with Professional and half, regular full synthetic Castrol Edge. Here's a link to the best price I've found.
