Default Do fluids need to be flushed?

I have a 2013 XKR with 29,570 miles. I took the car in for service since the service engine light came on. Before they even looked at the car, I was told they recommend an oil change , replace the engine air filter, replace the cabin air filter, and flush the brake fluid. I declined all but the oil change and oil filter. Afterwards, they said they also recommend I have the power steering fluid exchanged and two new rear tires. From what I read online, power steering fluid and brake fluid rarely need to be flushed. What do you all think? Thanks!!!

Brake fluid should be done every two to three years.

Same with PS fluid and differential lube.

So 2016 would be right in line with a 2013 model year.

You realise most service writers are on commission right?

Welcome to the forum Midwest557,

I don't know where you've been reading about brake fluid but it's been misleading advice.

Not surprised your dealer came up with a 'shopping list'. What actually needs doing is very much dependent on what's been done previously and when. Check the service history.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Stop second guessing the OEM. Read up on what Jag actually says and go from here.

Just understand that brake fluid is hygroscopic. (which means it takes on water, even if it isn't being driven) It's properties changes by reason of the vehicle being exposed to the atmosphere itself. Jaguar, as well as many other manufacturers will tell you that they recommend you change it every two years, and that is good advise. Please also note, that you need to use DOT4 Class 6 (low viscosity) fluid, which is not readily available at most retail outlets. I would recommend either ATE (Teves) SL.6 or Pentosin DOT4 LV. Good luck!

I like the ATE SL.6 because it still comes in a metal can.

I'd say yes to all those services and you should replace the transmission fluid too (sold as a kit). I'd even do a radiator flush so everything is clean and you know where you stand instead of opinion on the condition...

From what I've read for the ZF sealed "for life" trans, it really isn't. There are lots of threads across number boards as this is a popular trans. I believe that ZF has gone back on the sealed for life and recommends changing or at least checking the fluid at 60K. I had the fluid and filter changed on my Hyundia Genesis which has the same ZF6 as the XKR. I think that changing it out at 29k mi is a bit premature though.

It is a bit premature. I would check to see if it's leaking. The pan is plastic. I had to change it at 20K due to a leak. Other wise as you mentioned I would change at 60K.

Just looking for a thread to bump about this.

Had mine done today on my 2009. Just picked it up post job with 60,080 miles on it. Amazing difference. I bought my XK with 48.5K on the odometer, and frankly, it could of been done then and not been a waste.

It will vary with your driving. I like to run full throttle and shift short, better MPG, however, the increased torque on an auto transmission from this style also puts more heat into the fluid. This would put me in a shorter cycle for this service than someone who drives in a more ordinary manner.

Did you have a complete flush or just a 6 litre swap out??
