Default Do later model XKR's (2013+) have coolant issues?

I'm looking to purchase a later model (2013+) XKR and wondering if they have coolant issues, or any other major issues? Thanks!

The water pump on some individual vehicles with the 5.0 sometimes has problems, and with ALL XKs, the plastic coolant pipes in can sometimes go bad and make a mess.
Occasionally, the GDI high-pressure injectors go bad, but very infrequently.

I have had to replace pipes and gaskets on my 2013 XKR due to a leak.

10+ year old car. rubber deteriorates, metals with friction wear, filters clog, bulbs burn out… all exasperated with any lack of maintenance.
So, take the vin to the dealer’s service department and look over its history.

If I wanted the 5l, the MY13 would be it.

the early 5.0L 09-11 years had worse water pumps, timing chains, and timing chain tensioners. My 12 XKR had timing chain tensioner failure and water pump leak at 28k miles. All replaced under warranty. The water pump over the next 20k miles after that failed 2-3 more time before finally a revision kept it good and I’ve changed it twice just cause of other work being done near it and had it replaced.

the 09-11 xkr however regarding coolant pipes had a metal front Y pipe From Factory. My 12 xkr manufactured in Sept 2011 has a metal front Y pipe and a plastic rear crossover heater manifold pipe.

however, my 2013 XKR-S has a original non-updated plastic Y pipe. It also has the same plastic rear crossover heater manifold pipe. The water pump sucked still for 2013 made in 2012 and has failed already with 5k miles on it. However a new one just fitted last summer should be good as it’s the several times over updated water pump. I guess in 2012 MY13 they knew about the timing chain tensioner/guide issue and from my vin I’ve been told my 13 XKR-S has the “updated guides and tensioners”.

so … jag sort of went backward going to plastic from a longevity standpoint regarding the front Y pipe from MY12 to MY13. But they went forward at some point updating the guides and tensioners for the timing chains.

🤔💯🤦🏻‍♂️

In short, yes for the reasons everyone mentioned. Im my experience the rear crossover pipe fails first as far as pipes go and the pump. Parts are cheap but the supercharger needs to come off for both repairs. The water pump needs to be replaced with a 2 piece design. 'While you are in there' change the front plastic coolant components.

i paid a couple grand to have the intake off and several coolant hoses/pipes replaced just shy of a year after buying mine (roughly four years ago). actually back here today, after an uneventful year or so, perusing for information about the upper radiator hose which just sprung a little leak this morning. it's safe to assume you'll be repairing cooling system parts "regularly" although i don't feel it's much of an issue.
