Default Driving gloves - do you wear them?

Just curious as to opinions on wearing driving gloves.

I am not supposed to know, but by accident I discovered my wife has gotten me a pair of lambskin driving gloves for Xmas.

Personally I don't, but I'm sure you will cut quite a dash cruising round with your new ones.

Default Perforated

Lambswool sounds nice, just don't wear the ones with the holes cut out for the knuckles or without fingertips for that matter...

"Do we wear driving gloves?" is not really the question you are asking.

One of the secrets to a good marriage is to happily wear what ever the lovely wife gives you.

She has her reasons.

If you look better to her then that can only be to your benefit.

Never mind what the rest of us think.

FYI My mother gave me a very nice pair of string back bare knuckle short fingered driving gloves.

That is a whole other question.

On the other hand she has a barn full of Convertible Vintage MG's so it is SOP for her generation.

When the weather is cold I do wear them but it's for protecting my hands I do wear them outside as well .

Default Too True

That's the best advice right there... Happy Wife=Happy Life

Sorry about the bare knuckle, fingertipless knock

I would wear a standard full glove though and you can't beat lambskin for quality

Mike V;

You are going to have to talk to my Momma about that and I warn you she is a formidable woman in her own right not to mention President of the MG club for the past 11 years......good luck.

And yes I absolutely wear them around her.

May have to get a fake pipe and driving cap to complete the look.

As for the wife....I always explain that when she is happy I am happy but when she is not happy I am miserable.

You would be amazed at how well that works with every variety of service person or workman.

Fake pipe is a good idea. Back in the day when I drove a '73 MGB-GT I tried switching to smoking a pipe. When turning my head to look out the drivers window I'd frequently hit it on the side glass and knock burning tobacco everywhere. That's when smoking became too dangerous to my health... and that of my car!

Oh those windows spoil you....not much of an issue with the earlier MG T Series cars since most people leave the windows at home.....how funny is it to be able to write that?

Mother has a red MGB GT in the barn with the rest of her T's and YB.

The GT is her winter car for the very issue about windows we are discussing.

Reminds me I better give her a call it is her 77th Birthday to day....what a trooper.

cheers,

jamjax

I had a 1951 MGTD up-until a few years ago and had six MGB's of different years all at once and did use the gloves in the winter time though I use to drive in the winter with the top down even in the snow it was great fun.

Driving gloves on the street? No way! Unless you are super rich and your butler is driving you around and in that case the driver would wear the gloves.

I wear them on track though in the race car
