E brake clicking
I just happened to notice that when my car is running and I step on the brake pedal while in park or neutral, I hear a clicking noise coming from the E Brake area. I hear the click when I step down on the brake and when I release it both in park and neutral. I recently changed my brake pads all around. I haven't noticed it before and was wondering if anyone else has noticed anything similar in their car.

Did you reset the parking brake after you replaced the pads (disconnect battery for a few min, reconnect, reset parking brake etc)? And did you use the caliper tool that allows you to screw the piston back in on the back brakes or, did you use a c-clamp to push the pistons back in?

I had an independent shop do the brake replacement. They had a tool to screw the piston back and turn it in. I personally did not reset the parking brake and am not sure about the shop (probably didn't). No lights were on, the E Brake works fine, holds the car, and doesn't drag when released. All is well other than the clicking sound around the E Brake switch when stepping on the brake pedal in Park or Neutral when the car is running. I'm planning on bringing the car in to Jaguar for this and a few minor issues very soon.
I would have reset the E Brake myself but didn't want to the force the fuse cover off or disconnect the negative cable and have to reset other items.
Did they put the retaining springs back on? Just a guess - Not really sure what it could be but, I'd take it back to the shop and have them check it out since they did the work. I just did the rear pads the other day myself and I was surprised how simple it was compared to my BMW. There's really not much to it so hopefully, it'll be easy to spot.
UPDATE.....I apologize as the title of this thread was misleading and therefore did not direct forum members exactly what to look for. All owners of 2010 XKs and newer with the circular rising shift *** should have the same clicking noise I was referring to. If you have this shifter, when you start your car and after the *** raises, once you step on the brake as well as remove your foot from the brake in either Park or Neutral, you will here the clicking I was referring to. It has to do with the locking mechanism to keep the car from going out of Park. It is normal as I checked a 2014 XK and it did the same as well as the XF loaner I am using. It has nothing to do with the E brake. Sorry about the misleading heading. Anyway, it's normal.
I don't know about it being normal???
i took my XF in for new discs, pads and caliper removal (painted red). Since i collected yesterday i too have this click now. Wasn't there before and foot brake is spongy. Had to pump pedal twice to get reasonable stopping power.
Going back to garage tomorrow.
