Default ECU Tuning Group package

I just got the ECU Tuning Group package on my 2011 XKR S/C. I met with Jags in Beverly Hills and he and his team made it happen a couple short hours, pulley and program.
I was getting 18 mpg prior to the flash, now I get 24 and sometimes 25 mpg when driving under 80 mph. I have no speed restrictions now, and the car jumps from 90 mph to well over 150 in less than a minute. I haven’t had the ***** to peg the needle but it is coming.
As ECUTG mentions, there is smoother shifting, and greater acceleration. I haven’t had it dyno’ed and don’t really care what the numbers say. The price paid was nothing compared to what the upgrade has done for performance. Next stop is Vivid Racing for the Quicksilver exhaust, and spot to chase a Ferrari.

Hey Guys!

An ETG representative will be around Boston and Connecticut until Sunday. If any of you are interested in having your vehicles programmed, please contact me immediately.

Sorry for the short notice!

Kind regards,

ECU Tuning Group

What kind of money are we talking about to tune a 2007 XK in Boston?

Do you have any dyno sheets for this particular tune?

Do they make a ecu upgrade for a 2007 XK? I feel left out not having a R at times!
What are the benefits and cost?

Default ECU/Pulley upgrade cost justification

The ECU/pulley upgrade is offered at $2000. To me $2000 is a lot to pay for a simple upgrade. What is the actual cost of the ECU flash, pulley wheel, belt, and an hour or two of consultation? Although I'd like to have it done I don't like throwing money away. If the price were more reasonable, with respect for the cost of service and parts, I think a lot more people would jump on this.

How long does it take to flash the ECU? Say, about 1 hour which is on a DIY basis so the cost is zero except for the R/D of the flash codes. What is the cost of the pulley? About $150. Price for 1 hour of consultation $100. Everything else is on a DIY basis. I can't justify paying $2,000 for this service. Yes, the gains and benefits seem to be real but the price should be primarily determined my the service costs with a margin for profit. An aspirin may save someone's life so do you charge $1,000,000 for it or 10 cents. If you need new brake pads what is the price? What the pads are worth to you (being able to drive your car) or the market price. Someone is looking to make a lot of cash. If they do 100 upgrades that's $200,000 with very little expense. If more players offer the ECU upgrade service the price will surely go way down to a more market justified price.

I have a G37 convertible which I was thinking about upgrading with a supercharger from GTM. The entire supercharger motor, coolers, hose, fittings, fuel pump, brackets, pulleys, belts, ECU flash, oil, etc. for a complete install is only $7,000. The XKR already has a supercharger. All that is being done is adding a pulley and flashing the ECU. For $2,000! Am I missing something? At $2,000 I'm out. At $1,500 I'm out. At $800 I would consider it.

Yes...an awful lot. But the bottom line is we can be sure you're not going to be buying an ECU tune and pulley for your XKR

I think $2k is a fair price. There is quite a bit of R&D that goes into these products. For comparison I paid $2200 for an ecu for my Porsche 996TT over 5 years ago and that did not include a pulley

Yes, and I will have $2,000 more in my pocket to buy my next 2013 XKR.

You are never going to get your money back on mods when you sell your car. If that is important to you, don't spend a penny more. However, for $6k (ecu, exhaust, diverted valves) I was able to improve my Porsche from 420 to 500 hp without compromising reliability- i would take that deal any day of the week. However, with my Xkr-s, it already sounds amazing and the power is limited by traction, so I'm going to leave it stock.

I find my XKR brakes loose in 1st and 2nd if I put my foot down over half way down with Dynamic mode on and DSC on with tranny in S--need more traction before increasing torque.

You need a Quaife LSD. That will solve all of your traction issues.

Lack of traction in 1st and 2nd is a given for even much lesser cars, but when you can spin through 3rd and half of 4th you know you've almost got enough power

My Jaguar has Limited Slip Differential. I have the 2011 XKR 175 which comes with the speed and aero packs. Is this what you are referring to or is this an aftermarket item?

I had APR remap my Audi for $600, and it included 3 different fuel settings (boost and fuel curves mapped according to octane), a reduced power "valet" mode, fault code clearing and security lock, all controllable from the stocks on the steering wheel.
Yes Audi is a more common car and the development costs can be spread much further, but if someone was to charge 2 grand for a Jag, I would hope for similar capabilities. So far it sounds like you just get one fuel mapping, and nothing else for the money.

Obviously we XK owners have nothing to gain from a remapping, but if I could wish for one thing that I think many 2007 -2009 owners would buy into, would be to eliminate the "Automatic up-shift" we are stuck with on our transmissions, as well as removing the 155mph limiter.

Food for thought?
Vince
