Ever since I bought my 2007 XK convertible, I’ve had this ‘R’ envy, as an R was the first X150 I’d driven. For the past couple of years I’ve been watching the market for an available late model R, but with a specific color combination (red XKR with a black top, and an ivory and charcoal interior).
A month ago an email from cars.com revealed a match for my search. A 2013 was at a Florida CarMax dealer, so I paid for it to be transferred to my local dealer (in IL). It arrived last week while I was on vacation, but they would hold it for a week. I went today to take it out for a 24 hour test drive, fully expecting to purchase it.
Initial drive was as exhilarating as expected (gotta love those 510 ponies). But I soon noticed no change in the exhaust note when using the Dynamic button.
When I got home, I started going over the car with a fine toothed comb. No OBD codes, but numerous missing trim pieces, lots of nicks and scratches in interior panels, a poorly repaired scratch/dent in the passenger door, cracked tip on an outboard taillight, two holes in the front bumper for a license plate, faded image from review camera, and a non-valved aftermarket exhaust.
After awhile I knew this example wasn’t the car for me, and it wasn’t worth the effort to lift it and check underneath. Returned the car, 4 hours into the 24 hour test drive.
My 2007 and the 2013 contender Contender and the ‘07
The 2013 XKR in IRR, is back at the Naperville IL CarMax location, should anyone be interested in an example that was not well loved by a previous owner.

I think they'll have definitely got the message you weren't happy.
What a disappointment to find all those faults after a long search for your preferred colour combination and paying to have it moved from FL to the local dealer.

Yeah, the sales guy was sympathetic, said he was particular about the cars he purchased as well.

Graham
I only listed some of the faults I found, and I should have mentioned the bubbled door cards.
Kind of bummed about it, really thought it might be ‘the one’. Oh well, I’ll keep looking…
Sorry you found all the faults but good thing you checked. When a car has a lot of little things wrong upfront, there are often more problems done the road. Good thing you had the option to return.
Nice color choices on both cars!
There is currently a Red 2015 XKR on Bring a Trailer like New! Sorry Sold.
Yeah, saw it, but it wasn’t a ‘vert, and the interior was wrong. Did try for a ‘Final Fifty’ last year, with a nice interior, thinking I’d get it wrapped in a nice red if I won.
IRR is such a striking colour it's superb ..KJ from the rear my only suggestion is having that valance painted then 👌👌 (unless you prefer the black finish) lol either way it still looks great esp with the LED conversion

Thanks Steve. Yeah, after seeing the butts side by side, painting that lower extension would probably be the thing to do. I’d held off originally as I planned to make a modification to it, which I haven’t thought about in several years now.
THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF RED ,
ITALIAN RACING RED
CLARET RED
SALSA RED.
I guess we, in India were offered only the claret red .
Oh how I wish to see all three together to appreciate the diff in color.
Thanks!

That is not true. It depends upon the model year.
For example, the 2013 red colors were:
Carnelian Red
Caviar (which is considered a red that year)
Claret
Italian Racing Red
In 2007, the reds were:
Radiance (my current car color)
Salsa

You may be right .
I have a 2012 model .
I researched the colors offered in INDIA , found only claret for that year .
Thanks!
