because thats the only way jaguar supplies it. They do not seel inner tie rods. So at the dealer its a rack, at my house an inner tie rod source from outside venders goes in. Just did a land rover for the same issue from towing

I would suggest the reason for a full rack would be based on either leakage or damage . This would most likely be the only acceptable reason for complete replacement. As for the outer tie rod end the OP will see if the seals were damaged after starting and driving the car. If no seal damage and no leaks then he dodged the bullet. It took a fair amount of force to bend the rod so I would suspect the inner rack was forced against the bushing and seal. Time will tell if there was any internal damage. Hopefully there wasn't a problem.

 

Ditto what Jagtoes says. I suspect the inner tie rod isn't a wear item in the expected lifetime of the car and any impact damage from say a wheel hit would transmit into the rack causing damage there. From the nature of your injury (pulling it sideways) there's little impact damage to the rack itself and I assume the tire rod only bent within the limit of the inner rod ends motion. Beyond that the rack would try to pull through the mounting bushings.

 

Final tab: Inner and outer tie rods on passenger side plus alignment. $470.65. All's well that ends well...I hope.

 

no its a inventory issue, you cannot supply a ton of individual parts as this increase costs and logistics. So many things come as assemblies only

 

Please cite the part numbers used for the repair and the source of the parts - if different from the part number shown in post #31, in case other forum members need to replace the inner tie rod.

I don't think it's an inventory issue either. Surprisingly on my '05 Sportster I can get literally every part on the bike. I added a tach a couple years ago and was able to buy all the plug components for the electrical connections. They run off a data bus so I just tied into the speedo wiring and away we went.

 

no it is, I have bitched about for years. outside venders supply individual parts but not ALL manufacturers. Youre talking about a Harley not a Jaguar. We have enough parts storage capacity issues with the regular needed parts much less seldom used ones. When you pay for space you consolidate parts. And then there is a limitation in dollars by how much inventory you can have on hand from corp office too. This is all straight from our part manager who has done this for decades at not just Jag, but Volvo, Porsche, Nissan, Chevy etc They all have different standards

 

Let me get this straight .... neither you nor the tow truck guy could put the spare tire on right on the spot, and you had to get it towed somewhere to get it done??

Actually, I wanted to get the flat fixed and if I had installed the spare, I would have had to put a dirty wheel and tire in the car. Nope,not going to do that. But thanks for your snarky comment.

 

Buy yourself a tire bag or get a plastic bag that a mattress comes in and cut it to size. If you don't use your spare then why carry it. Just put the flat in the boot where the spare comes out. I had assumed you didn't have a spare and only the spare in a can package.

 

yup. I keep an old beach towel or bed sheet in each car for stuff like this, and I also use it to kneel or lie on if a roadside repair must be attempted.

 

I keep a new microfiber towel which is thin and large enough to cover the entire seat.
What if you or a passenger gets caught in the rain and or something else you dont want on your seats.
The MF serves as being able to safely wipe the car as well it there was a need.
In my other car I carry a roll of clingfilm- it has a million uses, such as being able to wrap a dirty tire or even hold things in place, like 4 wine bottles.
Will put a roll in the Jag today after this thread.

Go pick up a Harbor Freight moving blanket too. It's free when you find a coupon and doesn't take up much room.

 

And you can trade those with the homeless for changing your tire or other favors.
