Default Engine cut out

Can someone help me pinpoint an issue with my 2007 XKR please. When starting the engine it cuts out in a few seconds. Almost as if the security system anti-theft system is shutting the engine down? Anyone have any insights. Thank you.

Any faults? Do you get the security light flashing on the dash? I don't think that would allow it to even start but the older Ford systems sometimes did that, run for 2 seconds and die.

Do you have access to any diagnostic tools? I would start with looking at live data and watching fuel pressures.

The check engine light stays on and the engine stops within seconds. Engine starts normally .I do not have diagnostic tools. It starts normal and within seconds stalls out as if fuel flow has been halted. I'm going to try again tomorrow. Thanks.

Does this happen on cold starts, or on restarts after the engine is warmed up? (Or both?)

Check engine light on, shuts down immediately… and you’ve come to the conclusion that its a security issue??

Best get it flat bedded into the shop.

this time a cold start. This did happen one time during a warm start several years ago, but eventually started and has not reoccurred until now.

I would definitely suggest investing in a OBD2 scanner. They are so cheap anymore. Even a $25 model can read the "check engine" codes for you.

You're flying blind without the codes and an OBD tool which can read live data. E.g. elm327

Default Obd read

Okay picked up one of these devices. In the meantime the car has started and is running fine? Currently no check engine light but I may have cleared that learning how to work this thing. Here is what I'm getting from obd:Car Scanner. ELM OBD2
Version: 2.0.58/42000058/GP
DTC report
Connection profile: Jaguar OBD-II / EOBD + extra (CAN)Date: 1/6/2026 3:30:32 PM
VIN: SAJ
============================
OBD-IIOBD-II
DTCs: 131
----------------------------
P0193 [0x0193]
Fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor - high input
Status: Pending
----------------------------
P0193(00) [0x019300]
Fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor - high input
Status: Test failed (current drive cycle), Pending, Test not completed since last DTC clear, Test failed since last DTC clear
----------------------------
Am I assuming correctly the first step is to replace the sensor?

High input is most likely a shorted sensor, yes. You could test the voltage at it and verify the wiring, but the sensors do go bad. A false high reading will cause the pump to be slowed down to 'lower' the pressure, which would cause a loss of fuel pressure and a stall like you were getting. So it's a good place to start.

Thank you. I will do that looking up the p/n now. The car started fine today I drove it for about 30 minutes performance seemed fine returnrd parked it went to start 2 hours later and had a heck of a time getting the engine started again. Finally started so I could get it in the garage. Engine light back on.
