For as long as Jaguar has built the V8 in its "factory within a factory" at the Ford Engine Plant at Bridgend in South Wales, the engine number has the build date and time off the line assigned to it.



My AJ133 Gen III 5.0 normally aspirated V8 engine number is 14032206040508PN.

14 = Year - 2014
03 = Month - March
22 = Day - Saturday, 22nd
06 = Hour
04 = Minute

Does anyone know the breakdown of 0508PN - the last 6 digits?

I assume it's a sequential Production Serial Number where the final N = normally aspirated but I can't find anything published by Jaguar to confirm this.

I think you are assuming correctly. Logically it would aid in part mix/campaign actions where general date & time wouldn't provide enough detail. Everything that goes on a vehicle has a reason for being there and even the tiniest things have cost impact.

It is an interesting question that I'd like to understand too.

 

50 = 5 litre
8 = 8 cylinder
P = Petrol
N = Naturally Aspirated (the S/C cars have an S)

My '10 XKR is 10020518332508PS

The serial number is the first 11 digits so the first zero you quoted actually goes with the other digits.
