Default Error Code U0155

Today the check engine light appeared and I found out it was generated because of error code U0155 - Lost Communication with Instrument Panel Cluster Control. Any suggestions or ideas on why or how to fix this?

Does it come back if the code is cleared, i.e is this a 'solid' fault? Also, have you had any other issues? When the car starts throwing up an assortment of odd faults that mysteriously clear themselves, the problem is often low charge in the battery - the XK draws a lot of power as it wakes up.

The instrument cluster has more than just dials in it; there's quite a few functions controlled by the module in there. If the fault keeps occurring, the module might be faulty, it may have had a software glitch and need resetting, or it might be a bad connector or frayed wire. Unfortunately, the diagnostic procedure requires the Jag diagnostic system, so you'll need a jag specialist to dig into it.

The light first appeared today as I was updating the navigation. It stays on solid. I will see if it clears overnight, but not sure how to clear it myself. Unfortunately, there are no Jaguar dealers in my area, but there are two garages that specialize in Jag's, so if I cannot clear it or if it does not go away, I will have to take it in.

I did turn on the ignition during the install and got a bunch of error messages like, battery not charging and transmission fault. After a few minutes, I restarted and they all went away except for the U0155. How would I clear this myself?

I believe you can clear codes using generic OBDII readers, but I've never done it myself.

The Nav install takes a long time, during which the car is sucking juice at over 10 amps as it always does in 'convenience' mode (the powered-up-but-not-running state it goes into when it's unlocked). I think you've just drained the battery - take the car for a decent run to charge it up (I assume it will run with the code active), and see if the code clears itself. Also, I believe some codes are cleared automatically after a number of trouble-free starts.

Thank you for the replies. Engine light is now off and with a little driving it appears to have cleared it self. Much appreciate the time.

No worries - let us know if it comes back. But if you do get this type of gremlin popping up more regularly, it might be time for a new battery. All sorts of weird cack starts to happen when the battery isn't keeping a good charge.

Buy a CTEK 3300 Smartbattery maintainer and out on the car and keep it plugged in when not in use. This is the bst advice anyone other Jag owner can provide to you.
