I just removed the supercharger belt to see if the squeak would go away and it did, so I'll see what Mike and I can come up with for a fix since the clearance gauge included in the kit indicated sufficient clearance for the new pulley.

However, while I was in there just now, I did what I thought to do when I was installing the crank pulley- slacken the serpentine belt and wiggle the water pump pulley. Because this came to me while I was torquing the crank pulley bolts, it slipped my mind. Well, it's a good damn thing I did just give it a wiggle because that pump has some serious play. The good news is that I preemptively bought a pump and plastic tube when I bought the car because I knew it was just a matter of when. I just wish I caught it two days ago before I added two gallons of coolant. Lol... well, better this than after it overheats the engine.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this- for all you guys that love and pine for blower whine, I can hear it now with these pulleys. It becomes apparent above 4000 rpm or so and can be clearly heard over the stock exhaust with F19 pulled. It's not as loud as an M series Eaton, but it is definitely there.

Yes, the only time I've heard mine sing is at full tilt with the windows down.

Per your squeak, were you able to check the belt alignment to ensure the new pulley isn't installed on too far?

Are you going to try the sand paper trick to gain clearance?

The upper pulley is installed so that it sits against the bearing at the front of the snout. It's there and everything lines up. The interference is between the inside diameter of the pulley and the outside diameter of the snout, and it would be very difficult to get sand paper in there. My fear would be that it's so tight and so hard to get in there that if I did, it may tear off and become stuck between the pulley and the snout.

Pour a bag of sandblasting media all over your engine while it's running, some grit is bound to get in there and do at least a LITTLE bit of something.........

Gotcha. Another alternative is to use a grease and grit compound like Tri-Clover and allow the two parts to 'self clearance' with the compound acting like an abrasive. It works but I'm not too sure how the snout seal will like having grit around it. You'd need to apply it, let it run for a bit to work and then wash it out with brake clean or spray lube. 30 weight motor oil and fine sand is comparable.

The curse you have now is if you don't do 'something' the rubbing metal will start to gouge and create a high spot that gouges hard and higher until it overheats and causes other pain.

We run into these problems in industry on occasion so just trying to save you some grief.

I appreciate the ideas and feedback. I did squirt in a little PB blaster to see if that would quiet things down, to no avail. Something that occurred to me just before is that I wonder if the heat from the pulley melted the grease in the bearing it touches when positioned properly. I had it baking at 525°F and the drip point of grease is something like 350-400°F, if memory serves. However, the supercharger turns smooth by hand except for the spot of interference, so I'm not entirely convinced of that. I mean, how many hundreds or thousands of cars are out there that have had their pulleys swapped via this method withiut issue?

Either way, the pulley has to come back off and I'll look at the bearing to see if there's any evidence of the grease drooling out. Mike is working with me on a discount for a replacement pulley and a revised clearance gauge, which I think is fair.

I'm bummed because I REALLY want to drive the car, but I've been in the game long enough to know this is just how it goes sometimes. I'm just glad I have another vehicle to drive in the mean time.

OK, well, I just got back from meeting up with Mandrake and his tuned/pulleyed/intercooled vehicular mode of transportation....... and......
I'm very sad to say that... yeah, he sorta kicked my butt.

We didn't do a Dyno comparison, it was more "Real World" than that.

I lost four-out-of-four, and it wasn't really even close. His acts like there's at least 100 extra ponies in there somewhere.

*sigh* . . first times I've ever lost in my XKR.

I was just in Drive, no Dynamic, no TRACdsc, and I had my AC on in that second video.

ALWAYS A/C, too warm without it. I was pulling my boat on that second one, and the anchor was still out.

Looks like just you and me in this thread now.

Everyone's too worried about what diaper to use to wipe their financial investment down with or what tire most closely matches what was available in 2007.

Don't suppose you got a video of your ACC bringing your car to a halt while you out and about?

I have spent the last week playing with mine on the way to work as my commute is all city driving. My '10 XKR reliably disables ACC at around 20 mph.

I even had one person I was following just decelerate very gently which should have emulated when you thought yours worked but mine just disengaged at 20 mph as before so there was no chance of the car gradually coming to a halt.

I tried again 3-4 times with the witness and it didn't work at all. Then I tried another couple times alone on the way home and nopes again. I started getting a bit perturbed and got home and double-checked with wifey, and she also remembers when I did it to 'show off' and it stopped.
GRRRR!!!!!!!!!!
I also may as well say.... I remeasured my removed Resonator exhaust section pipe diameter and it is the 55mm. I did find that the 60mm I measured was on an expanded pipe on the outside of a slipfit.

Not a good day for me, today. 0-for-3.

I WILL get ACC to stop again, as I have last week, and I WILL either get it on video or with a witness. IT DOES STOP!
DAMMMMITTT!!!!!

You need to think harder to make the ACC come to a complete stop. May the Force be with you!
