Hi there. Does anyone have experience with replacing incandescent W5W bulbs with LED bulbs? For example, in the headlights (sidelights), interior lighting,. trunk lighting, etc?

Specifically:

• Is it important to use the CAN-BUS compatible bulbs? My merc tells me when a bulb is out, but I am not sure my 2009 XK does. So am wondering if an LED bulb will generate error messages due to the lower draw.
• Many of the interior lights fade in when they come on. I can't seem to find dimmable W5W LED bulbs - so was wondering what the effect was when using LED bulbs in the interior. I assume they just came on fully after a short delay?

Any other issues?

I like the idea of not having to replace bulbs in the future.

If no one has experience with this, I'll buy a pack and report back as I experiment with them.

I recently changed the Headlight running lights on my XK8 with LED bulbs and experienced exactly what Owen has described. I had noticed this phenomenon previously as we use LED night lights at home and these glow for quite a while after being switched off.
I did a quick search on the interweb and found an interesting article about this.

The conclusion is that there is nothing to worry about. Hope that helps.
