Experience with W5W LED bulbs
Hi there. Does anyone have experience with replacing incandescent W5W bulbs with LED bulbs? For example, in the headlights (sidelights), interior lighting,. trunk lighting, etc?
Specifically:
I like the idea of not having to replace bulbs in the future.
If no one has experience with this, I'll buy a pack and report back as I experiment with them.
Thanks as always!
Specifically:
- Is it important to use the CAN-BUS compatible bulbs? My merc tells me when a bulb is out, but I am not sure my 2009 XK does. So am wondering if an LED bulb will generate error messages due to the lower draw.
- Many of the interior lights fade in when they come on. I can't seem to find dimmable W5W LED bulbs - so was wondering what the effect was when using LED bulbs in the interior. I assume they just came on fully after a short delay?

I recently changed the Headlight running lights on my XK8 with LED bulbs and experienced exactly what Owen has described. I had noticed this phenomenon previously as we use LED night lights at home and these glow for quite a while after being switched off.
I did a quick search on the interweb and found an interesting article about this.
The link is www.lamphq.com. Look for their LED section which has a description and explanation for this issue.
The conclusion is that there is nothing to worry about. Hope that helps.
