Default F-type Door handles

Never noticed how much smoother the lines are on a vehicle without protruding door handles , looks so much cleaner.

Wishing our cars came out with them !

You could be the first to get it done. Based on some of the custom car mods I've seen this isn't to bad of a job to do.

Funny enough I was never the type to notice these finer details until I opened the door of a tesla then realised the f-type had them as well

Hi Jagtoes,
wouldnt you have to purchase F-type doors? and would they even fit on a XKR? I wouldn't mind trying it.

No all you would need to buy is the door handle assemblies. A good hotrod mod shop should be able to cut out your door handles and weld in the new handles and make up the necessary linkage rods to adapt to your linkage. I've seen it done by different fab shops but if you watch some of the shows on the Velocity channel like Chip Foose OVERAHAULING they do this stuff all the time. It's not as simple as I said but not that difficult either even with the aluminum. Of course they would need to repaint the door but that's not a big deal.

Cool! Dumb question time, how do you lock and unlock the doors with this handle?

The same way you do it using the key fob. Don't know what you would do if the battery failed but I imagine there is a version where you can have a key lock somewhere integrated into the handle.

I know Dave Kindig personally, and he was a pretty cool guy.... before he got his own show. Now he's turned into a narcissist and is quite snobby. Still does good work though.

Thats a shame to hear about Kindig. It wouldn't be hard to transplant that handle for a good body/fab guy, whats tricky is getting the mechanisms and linkage that are behind the handle to function and fit between existing structures inside the door. Also, if the doors are aluminum like I think they are, you will need to find someone that is experienced and competent with tig welding aluminum and has all the necessary equipment to pull it off. Otherwise that idea of a smoother look will be a bit more warped than you imagined

I agree and don't think you'ed get an argument about the installation. The key is the fabricator so finding that person would be the challenge. I suspect Kindig or Foose and even other fabricator/mod shops would have no real issue on the welding and fab work to make the handle fit. Also they would need to make the unit or housing out of aluminum in order to do the welding. Another option would be to get the mechanisms from Jaguar or even a donor F-Type as they get wrecked.

Cool so maybe in the near future if you have some time and are around his shop you could stop in and ask if they can do it and get a price to share with the form. You never know as maybe someone would want to get this done.

WITH the aluminum housings, I'm sure. I'll ask him about it, but it won't be for a couple months until I'm back in his area.
I just don't know how it would interface with Keyless Entry and the Button Locking.

Unless they are real creative you may not be able to get the button on the handle but all you would need to do is press the lock button on your key fob. Just like you can do it today.

While I agree that the "shaved" look of the F-type or Tesla door handles looks nice, I find it uncomfortable to grab a thin little sliver of metal to open a large car door. I rather like a big handle to grab onto, one that I don't have to be so precise with when wrapping my clumsy, thick fingers around. I'll keep mine as is, thank you.

The size of the handle is irrelevant and can be made any size wanted. It was an exercise looking at the concept of smoothing the lines on the door. It seems it is being done on some of the up scale cars. Just a concept and if you are at a Jag dealer in the future go look and see how the F-Type looks and operates.
