HELP !! Car crapped out today
Any idea ?? --- so on a short road trip in my 15 f type r and get to an open area and hit it from about 40mph to 120 mph and the car starts running like its missing !! --- then I get off the highway shut the car down and re-start and the car runs perfect again -- drove another 200 miles since then and all seems ok ??????? Any opions or help appreciated !!
Did you get any warnings or a check engine light? I have seen some issues with the O2 sensors, which is either remedied by replacing, or a pcm software update. Seen some issues with map sensors as well, these cars have 2. Unless you check for codes, it will be tough to tell.
Thanks for reply ---- but no CEL --- just started running crappy ( reduced power and like not running on all 8 cilinders ) after full acceleration from 40 to 120mph --- got off highway shut car down for 30 seconds and started up again and car ran perfect again ??!
I'm also wondering about o2 sensors. take it to the dealer and get them to read the fault codes.

You are in LA, so I don't think your car sat for entire winter... but if it did it could be old gasoline.
If your car sits for long time without being driven you need to add fuel stabilizer and keep the gas tank full. Otherwise fuel congeals and causes fuel starvation during hard acceleration.

Don't think the problem was any of the above because it ran crappy for about 5 minutes after my acceleration run then I pulled off the highway and turned the car off and started it back up and ran perfect again
It sounds like it went into some sort of limp mode, that was cleared when you shut the ignition off and on again.
But that should have given you a warning in rhe display?
I would have done as others have suggested, and checked if there are any fault codes set.

Our Outback does that rarely, starts rough, CEL comes on - don't know why - I just reset the code and carry on and it doesn't happen again for months.
Now you know the codes they can be cleared and see if they return in two drive cycles. If they don't, I'd suspect temporary low fuel pressure.

Software glitch. I spent a lot of time while waiting for delivery reading the technical docs, Every third run on the highway and the car will go into a mode where it leans out the cylinders one at a time, listening for ping, and adjusting the timing and injection for maximum performance and fuel economy. Maybe you punched it when it was going through one of those introspective moments and it 'crashed" and screwed up the running parameters. Cycling on/off reset everything....
