Default What behind this bar?

Whats behind this black bar? Is it just a license frame mount or is there a metal beam behind it?

Metal bar. That's structural part that allows you to pass the US bumper crash laws...

Thank you!

Are there any pictures of the F Type with the front bumper removed? I'm trying to figure out whats behind there to find a place to mount something.

Somewhere on here is a picture and possibly schematic of the front end. I am on a cell phone or I'd search. It might be under one of the carbon fiber threads...

There's a cut in half AWD at the Peterson Museum in LA. I took these pictures last week:

It's noticeable from video of the P7 that the bar is still there behind the grill.

So: make friends with the Parts Guy at your dealership if you want to delete this on your car.

But. It seems the change in front suspension geometry is more important.

3 SipSmiths with Fire Tree, Lime and Lemon into 2016...

That interests me. I made significant improvements on a previous car with some carefully selected suspension components and settings.

I've got a wee dram remaining of 1974 Macallan. That might not last the year ...

Here's a view of the inside of the grill, etc.

Thanks guys! Many new cars have a plastic, rectangular RADAR transmitter in the front. Doesn't look like the F-type does though.

That would be for adaptive cruise control and collision warning, which the F-Type does not offer.

I'm waiting for someone to produce a bolt on replacement grill that does away with the grill bar and has provisions to retain the parking sensors......probably waiting in vain but I would imagine that something like this that is cost effective would be hugely successful; the bumper bar is a blemish on an otherwise stellar design IMO.

Agree on the bumper bar, and the Project 7 got rid of it, but it's back with the SVR. Odd. And don't forget, the little shark fin antenna on the coupe is an eyesore as well, and the convertible doesn't need one.

Yep, the bar is by far my least favorite exterior element on the car. I've seen pics of the grill and bumper bar and it looks like it would be easy to have a Project 7-"ish" style grill for a bolt in replacement. The only thing that might be a bit of a complication is that in the picture above, there seems to be a pce of rubber(?) that is intended to transmit impact from the plastic bar to the metal framework behind. Not sure how this rubber (?) pce is attached or how hard it is to remove.

I just took a look. That is gray foam, and it is just behind the honeycomb grille. I don't believe it extends into the bumper bar. My wife's 2012 Miata is similar, with a foam piece behind the large honeycomb grille, but later years added the plastic bar in front of the honeycomb, and don't look as good. Perhaps this was a pedestrian safety issue, with a nice smooth bar at knee height?

It may be that the rubber/foam piece is 'fills the space' between the plastic bar and the metal one behind, helps locate the nosecone, and stops it moving about too much - it extends into the 'bar' - the foam might actually be 'glued' to the metal bar behind - I've seen that done before. Replacing the entire grille and plastic bar would not seem to be too difficult, other than the parking sensors and re-routing the cable that lives in the bar. The metal bar itself is behind the grill, so not in the way.

Cool; foam is easy to deal with. ....and all that makes sense as it LOOKS like the P7 has all the same stuff with the exception of that foam pce and a different grill (sans bar). I think it would be easy to route the parking sensor wires and provide a spot for them to poke through flush. Doesn't seem like it'd be that hard.

I'd tackle making a custom 1 off, but I think the grill surround is notched where the bar goes so you'd need to address those notches too....other than that you could make a grill out of almost any screen.

I'd gladly pay a reasonable amount for a plastic grill similar to the P7 pce and it would be easy for such a grill to have "plug and play" mounts for the sensors....

Here's an old thread with some good pics; https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...cement-132987/

I think you could take the nose cone off, remove the foam pce, spray the metal bar flat black (or remove it, but I'd keep it I think), remove the grill halves and plastic bar from the surround and make a custom 1 pce mesh grill; remount the parking sensors, strap up the wiring and put the nose back on......Voila; Project 6.5! haha.

I have been searching sources on the Internet to no avail for weeks, trying to find some grill material in cut-to-shape sheets that have a honeycomb pattern of any substance that even remotely shares the agressive pattern and individual honeycomb cell size as the F-Type.
Nada thus far!!! Virtually all the universal grill material I've located and/or sampled thus far is a much finer mesh, cells half the size or smaller, and nothing that shares the 3-dimensional depth of the F-Type grill material.
Sadly, a lot of what I find looks no different than the "stucco cloth" mesh material one can buy at Home Depot for reinforcing the the underlying scratch coat to a ceramic tile installation.
