F-Type SVR - Thoughts?
Jaguar F-Type SVR came into the fold a possible option for my next car. I saw a few 2017, 2018's in my price range. Anyone have any experience with them? I know there's an FType forum, but I am not likely to look in there for responses.
I heard the SVR engine on a Range Rover and sounded pretty wicked and owner said it's a beast (had two new Ferrari's next to it).

I checked one out several years ago as a possible purchase myself; A 5.0 /R AWD. The thing moved like a slot car, but it certainly wasn't the most comfortable thing. It felt way too......... 'Corvette-y' for me. Plus, I'd always get a convertible, and while raised the C-Pillar was very intrusive into the rear vision.

I'm going to not be very popular with my answer BUT how long would you intend to keep it? JLR, based upon my last several years of experience with them, will not likely offer much of any support for combustion powered vehicles. When more than one main dealer tells me anything 5 years or older's considered "vintage" and not easily serviceable and parts NLA, I'm done...

As my XKR hits 200,000 miles in the next couple of weeks, I am planning on having all the little things fixed that are down right now (cruise control, A/C, bushing noises, bluetooth module, because I'd like to keep this XKR for another 200,000 miles if I live that long. But as Jahummer has stated, parts are already an issue. The idea of the F-type 5.0L is quite appealing to continue. However, I had an F-type for about a week when they first debuted at the end of 2013 when JLR gave four of us lucky forum members cars to use after the L.A. Auto Show. I had a V8S convertible and thought it was a blast to drive. Without having a token back seat, there was very little recline capabilities which made for some uncomfortability for me as a tall driver. I also thought some of the interior pieces on the center console were cheap looking and cheap feeling. Plus I had a convertible, and the usable trunk space was just laughable. However, the coupe is certainly a beautiful automobile that at least has some storage capability. And I would consider adding one when my XKR ceases to be the reliable, pleasureable, phenomenal car that it has been for me over the last 9+ years. I think that one has to consider the length of time that it will be kept. In my state, California, in Los Angeles, and many other communities, all natural gas appliances have been outlawed on all new construction which means at some point stores will not be able to sell gas appliances, furnaces, bbqs, etc. My guess is that gas will be banned at some point in the near future as well. But if it's a car for the next 3-5 years, why not have some fun? The 5.0L engine is a smooth, powerful workhorse with an exceptionally reliable reputation. I'd do it if it serves your purpose.

When my last XKR had exceeded 100,000km and warranty had expired (in 2014), I thoroughyl checked the F-Type as a potential successor. Result: I moved on to Porsche. Too little (space), too loud, too heavy, too broad for a sports car on small roads, and comparably poor driving performance on country roads, unless no curves… an entirely different animal than my XKRs. Keep that in mind when making a choice. I am now bck to Jaguar, having bought for the first time an old (…) XKR.

I test drove a 2019 F Type SVR a couple of weeks ago and actually liked it. I would have to trade my XKR and Virage in for it though but decided in the end that the Aston fits better in my life at the moment. All my car mates were telling me I would be stupid to do the trade as well.
My wife came on the test drive and surprisingly found it less claustrophobic than the XKR. Straight line performance was not far off and it also seemed to handle the bumpy city streets better so it is probably a case of right car, wrong time.

I'm thinking "second car," and am at a lower price point than most of you. I tried, I really did, to have the emotional connection to the F-type that would justify the current price point for what I'd want. I just couldn't get there.
I'm now on the hunt for a 2007-08 SL550. I'm in So Cal, so I've got options.

Of course, I'd LOVE to have an entire stable, but there's nowhere to put them. I already have a separate shop with two Mustangs, and I'm STILL waiting for a shop to be built at my residence. Stupid concrete shortage.

I can really only have one car right now. Or one car that would be in the garage. I don't want to put in a lift then I won't have access to middle of the garge to wash cars, etc... 16" garage door with a good foot on with side.
I am just running scenarios should I sell the Rapide. Next car can be new or used, under 100K and not too old. Has to be newer than 2013. 911 would make the most sense, a premier Porsche indy shop is 3 miles from my house. As much as I love Aston and Lotus, wait times for repair are kind of long considering this is my only car. Not that Jaguar was any quicker fixing a car in reality. Saw a couple Bentley Continental GT V8S's that looked cool. First choice is keeping the Rapide, but some times a sale is necessary.
