Default Fitting new headlight blew something

Hello, I was fitting a headlight to my car and decided to run the engine while testing the light. I should say at this point that the engine has never failed to start and has run perfectly up to this point. I switched on the sidelights and all was ok, then when I switched on the dipped beam, there was a faint pop noise from somewhere and the engine stopped. The engine will not start now although it cranks happily. Ironically, the headlight works fine but something happened to the engine electrics when I switched on the dipped beam. Does anyone know what math have happened please? I’ve checked all fuses and they’re ok.

Thank you, Stephen

Did you, by chance, fit an AFS headlight assembly in an non-AFS vehicle?
Starting point: go to the top of the XK/R forum and download the Electrical Service Guide/wiring diagram.

perhaps there is a relationship with the “popped something” and the light…. but I just think the timing is a coincidence.
The only sure way to ascertain the issue is to read the codes.

Have you checked all fuses and relays? Also check all earth points. If the engine was running and the pop caused the engine to cease running and now fails to start, I reckon it's an electrics issue. Certainly would be advised to check for any DTCs.
