Talking (FoodForThought) Is it possible to improve our XKRs by fitting F-Type-R engine parts?

Hello Jaguar family, just a fun little question I thought of

1. Since the new F-Types use the same engines as our beloved XKR's, just slightly updated, is it possible to bump our engine performance from 500hp to 575 (or partially there) by retrofitting parts from the new F-Type engine into our XKR engines?
2. And related follow-up question, any of the new F-Type engine updated engine parts we could benefit from swapping into our XKR engines? Perhaps updated/re-engineered parts for improved reliability (if not performance as my first question asks)?

I bet - it's done mainly with software.

Yep, it's all in the tune (and exhaust).

Exhaust is not that important in my opinion. Have a custom, free-flow exhaust with sport cats on 5.0 s/c and gain is close to zero (less than 10bhp increase with torque 20nm lower vs OEM exhaust).

Exactly NOT what I said, I hope.... To get a better TUNE, you need to open up the exhaust. A new tune won't do much with the stock exhaust.

The XKR-S, along with other 5.0 litre JLR V8 fitted vehicles have various HP ratings depending on model ranging from 510 to 575 HP with factory tunes, and over 600hp with aftermarket tunes. There are no different engine parts used to accomplish this, they are all the same version and really since 2009 and to date there has been little change to the AJ gen 3 AJ133 regardless of what vehicle they are fitted to.

You could consider updating two things in the engine which have proven to be problematic in the early AJ133 SC - the timing chains (plus guides and tensioners) and the plastic coolant pipes/hoses (all of 'em).
Failure of either has been known to destroy the engine and the updated parts are much improved.
The downside is cost, not so much the parts but the labour which is yuge.

You mean a 8mm timing chains? Has anyone made it? Is it possible? What is a parts list to be ordered?

My main question here is whether it's really possible. As different size of a timing chain is a different speed of a crankshaft (unless you have different gears).

Yep, the 8 mm chains. No change to crank and cam speeds.
Hundreds if not thousands of AJ133s have been upgraded from 6.3 to 8.0 chains so I would say it is possible!
But the catch is you can't upgrade just the chains you have to upgrade the guides and tensioners as well, the new chains won't work with the old guides and tensioners.
Which is a good thing as the old guides are a root cause of the problem (tensioner digging a hole in the soft alu, new guide design has a hardened steel impact spot) and the new tensioners are an improved design as well.

There is no need to mess with the engine internals. Simple mods including an exhaust X-Pipe, Pulley swap, and the "right" ECU tune will get you to anywhere from 620 HP to 650 HP depending on which model year you have. (Note that the ECU was changed circa 2012 from Denso to Bosch.) All this can be done for under $2,500 US dollars.

See this posters Sig-line: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...u102768-37010/

Where he states... Current Jag: 2010 5.0 XKR (XKR-S X-Pipe, smaller pulley and tune ~650bhp - 11.567@123.19, max v=126.04!)

The one for the S/C 5 litre XF and XJ changed for the 2013 MY but I don't think that applies to the XKR as the same ECM part number is listed right through to the end of production.

XKR has the same Denso ECU up to end of production. Bosch started with the new 8 speed transmission in 2013
