Default fuse 19

has anyone on here actually pulled one on a 2010 or new xkr? i hear a lot of people talking about when you take it off that the flaps stay open all the time. well when you activate dynamic mode the flaps stay open all the time anyway so what is the point of pulling it? some people made it seem like the flaps stay closed on lower rpms then pop open in the higher rpms. this is no way true.

Hrm -- I didn't know that. I hadn't tried any of that yet, but I had been meaning to see if I could figure out the specifics of what Dynamic Mode actually does. Where did you get that particular piece of info?

i got that info from my car. when my dynamic mode is on the exhaust is louder all the way through the rpm range. i also got under the car and you can find where the flaps are and feel if they are in the open or closed position. they were open. on a side not of the dynamic mode; when you turn the car off then turn it back on within a certain number of hours the dynamic mode stays on. only after a 10 or so hour day at work do i notice that it shut off and the the display tells you that it is shutting it off. if anyone has any other info i would love to hear it. i actually have a question, do the baffles when activated bypass the muffler completley? looking under the car you can see the the secondary pipping only enters the mufflers with a few inches. the reason i ask is because i was going to have a muffler shop bypass the mufflers but if the car already does that then it would be a waste of money. i was going to do a test and take off the mufflers all together and see if it sounds the same as if the dynamic mode was on.

I've only done it on my 2007 and pulling the fuse does open the flaps and make it hooligan loud (I have high flow cats too). Otherwise the flaps open depending on throttle position and rpm, somewhere here on the board I've posted the actual chart of when they open.

ya i have heard others say that they open and close depending on throttle position and rpm and that could be true for the 4.2 but all the tests i have done to my car shows that they stay open all the time. but maybe i will just pull it and see what happens.

The 2010 manual indicates that selecting dynamic mode for spirited/track use affects the active dampers, presumably switching to mapping trading a more comfortable ride for higher performance. If you want the louder exhaust, but softer ride, maybe pulling the fuse is the answer.

On a 07-09 the flaps are open at startup/idle, then they close and stay closed until >3000 rpm depending on throttle position. So with "normal" driving you probably wouldn't notice them ever open but give it a bootful in second gear on a narrow street with the windows open and it's quite loud. I drove around for a week with the fuse pulled and it's a bit rowdy.

Here's the table:

The flaps are in the outside pipes and basically bypass the muffler - but there will be some flow through the rest of the muffler and out the inner 2 exhaust pipes.

Awesome post indeed! Just got an 08 XKR and like the sound of this. Where do I find fuse 19 and is this the only thing removing it affects?

Default Fuse 19

The fuse is found in the fuse box between the two back seats. On my 07 you just wedge your fingers in on the side of the seat back, pull it forward until it pops free of the clips and then lift up toward the roof as the lower edge has L shaped brackets that fit behind a metal bar.

After you have it out the first time it is easy to do. Fuse is on the right side about 1/3 from the top if I recall... a red fuse. There is a fuse puller in the upper right corner.
