Default Gear shift module

I have been working on a 2007 XK. I currently have U0103-87 Lost comm with Gearshift module.

I have charged battery and driven around plenty of times and it will not go away. I have no indication of what gear I am in and paddle shifters do not work. I also believe this is preventing the top to go down.

any advice or tips? Is there anything to check before purchasing another gearshift?

Why did you list the restraints module in the thread title? Are you getting more than one DTC code?

So it's acting like the can bus circuit isn't completing. I would chk Fuse F17 in all three junction boxes. I'd also expose the gear shift selector module, check the connections and circuit board for clean contact before replacing. Anything spills and it can corrode easily. I'd do this before swapping out the part.
