Default Gearshift wear repair

The black leather(?) knob on my gearshift is showing wear. Is there any better alternative than shoe polish to cover it up?

Thanks,

Steve

Shoe polish won't last, but it can fill in the damage and it's the cheapest fix if it works. Next to try is a black permanent marker, but I doubt that you'll be satisfied. Leather dye may work, depending on the depth of the leather damage.

You might want to change the look and use an aftermarket or different OEM knob. There are many different styles on Ebay or check with Forum sponsors and on the Forum Marketplace. The knob simply screws off.

There are any number of leather dyes/colourants available, black being especially easy to get. Surflex, Leatherique, and many others. They are water-based polymer colourants, very, very easy to use. If your interior is black, this same dye can also be used to correct the scuffed area on the driver's seat bolster, armests etc.
i always get the proper colourant for my cars because scratches and scuffs happen no matter how careful you are.
