Default Glovebox Has No Catch. Just Drops Open.

Here's another good one. The glovebox has no gas assist lowering, cable or anything else. When I press the button it just drops like a rock. Any input on this one would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

If this is any consolation, my SL65 glovebox drops faster than my XKR....LOL.....and the SL65 cost $185K if you buy new.IMO, mine doesn't drop like a rock like you discribed....maybe have it checked.

just remove the glove box and put a small sheetmetal screw though the plastic by the broken hook engaging the cable. FREE or $.10cent fix. And if the cable is broken then crimp an uninsulated ring terminal to the cable and put the screw through the eye. there are several ways to fix

Here's a thread with photos. The Jaguar TSA recommends using a 2mm cotter pin. Simple fix and common problem.

FWIW there is a TSB on the issue, but the fix via your service dept. is not free:

CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation:

In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to install a split / cotter pin onto the glove compartment damper arm.
PARTS:
2mm X 30mm split / cotter pin Qty: 1 (to be obtained locally)
TOOLS:
No special tools required

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.
Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
INSTALL SPLIT / COTTER PIN ONTO GLOVE COMPARTMENT DAMPER ARM
NOTE :Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:

Thanks for this, I'm taking my car to the dealer to have this fixed as a good will/warranty repair. They fixed cracked chrome trim on the shiftgate surround as a warranty item so I am hoping this will be as well...

I've been putting off getting my glove box fixed but finally decided to do it this week since the car's in there for other reasons. I don't know if it's because I've continued to operate it since the spring broke or not, but as it turns out, the ENTIRE glove box now needs to be replaced, not just the spring! Apparently the entire hinge is damaged beyond repair. OOPS -- take this as a warning to be very careful with opening and closing your glove box if the spring is gone.

If it's out of your pocket, I'd ask to see the damage first... Hard to believe it couldn't be fixed...

Your post will prod me to get busy an fix mine ASAP though...thanks!

The good news is, Rosenthal never takes advantage of me, so I believe them when they tell me the hinge is broken, but they will probably show it to me just so I can see it myself, which is their MO. In fact, they're trying to find a way to get the part replaced via my extended warranty...

Fixed mine today by using the cotter pin method. Only took about 40 min. to get everything worked out.

Are you all talking about getting it fixed under the original owners warranty, or the extended Exclusionary warranty?
Curious, as I have such a warranty through 2015.
Thanks!
