Exactly, that's why it wasn't reconditioned before putting out for sale.

As a real good friend of mine once said "There is a *** for every seat " but it's not going to be mine.

Thanks everyone for all your comments. I owe you. Since your saved me thousands, I just need to know where to send the checks.

Save it for "the one." It's out there, and has your name on it. Just be patient, and you'll find it. This fiasco has been a great learning experience for you, and you'll be better prepared next time.

Agree and disagree with the 'spend on a new car' debate

When I bought my 2014 here's what needed to be done

£750 New tyres - mismatched front and rear - but they were legal so was optional
£1200 - paint correction and ceramic seal, glass nano seal - optional and could have done myself for £300 as have the stuff
£300 - A service inc oil flush - not optional and necessary
£40 - Air con recharge and anti-bac - optional
£600 - tracker fitted - optional
£300 - dash cam fitted - optional

I'd had an independent vehicle inspection (plus one by the warranty company), but best case it would have cost me £640/$770

Absolutely nothing wrong mechanically with mine and at A service inspection all bushes and suspension were good for a car that had 44k on it, Indy commented that it should be good for a few years.

Hope you find one that suits you better

I got my 2012 in 2014 with 6666 miles on it. It was a CPO car and I paid top price. 1st year cost "0" other then gas. 2nd year CPO replaced alternator and new glove box for broken soft drop. I replaced 2 rear tires at around $500. Oil change was free. 3rd year cost was for oil change and dealer gave free NYS inspection. I replaced 2 front tires and got all wheel alignment . Tires were around $500 and alignment was $150. 4th year and year was the same with oil change and NYS inspection. This year being year 5 I am scheduled for my annual oil change and will get battery test and if necessary have it replaced. Car has 24K miles. I consider normal wear as consumables which regardless of the vehicle are part of the ownership. This is the only car in 55+ years I've owned cars that is dealer serviced.

Buying a car, either new or used, is never risk-free. Although new (and CPO) cars come with a factory warranty, it's still an inconvenience to get them repaired even though there's no out-of-pocket cost. Used cars are more risky because you can't tell a book by it's cover and used car salesmen wrote the book on how to get that sucker's money.

My advice is Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware. Never Trust, Always Verify. It may be love at first sight, but the truth comes out after you're married. So, if it doesn't work out, you trade it in for a new model and jump right back on the merry-go-round. Hmmm...

OK, now for the latest update. The MB dealer used car sales manager called and told me to come back and look at the car now. The dealer had put on 3 new tires, new rear brake pads and rotors, buffed out all the nicks and scratches on the sides. The salesman took me to the MB mechanic that looked at the car to talk to him. I asked him point blank with the salesman there 1. does it need a new AC compressor and does it need bushings. He said yes it does. I told the salesman that I am out the door. The MB salesman called me back today and said that MB would put a new AC compressor and new bushings on the rear. What do ya'll think now. I have not seen the work but would have it checked out. But that is a good 4 -5 grand of work maybe if the replace everything on the compressor. Chime in Jaguar coaches.

Regardless of what they are promising you......at this point, I’d have a bad taste in my mouth and would pass on this car. They are trying way to hard to unload this car on you. Find another car without all the drama! There’s plenty of nice, well cared for cars out there. This car sounds to me like “bad news”. Good luck in your decision making.

Just that agony is not worth it. And its far from perfect. Unless you are a sucker for punishment. (hang on, I should have asked this first, are you into S&M)

Its like marrying someone from the brothel, even if they are miraculously rehabilitated...every little fight...you get the picture.
Stay away

Agreed... Just move on. It's not the only XKR in the world. They should've done this when they first got the car and I'd put money there is another big ticket item they did not disclose yet. They should've auctioned this car off, but thought a sucker may walk in and buy it.

When I was looking for an XK, the local Jag dealer had a beat up XK like you couldn't imagine. It was a trade in on a newer XK so the dealer thought they'd roll the dice and see if they can sell it. No one would be buying that car... Somehow it moved on. JLR should not allow a franchise to sell a crappy Jag; does no one any favors.

To the OP, listen to the advice given from the guys on this board. It's solid. You'll be better off finding a car with no issues. They are out there. It just takes patience. I got lucky and found one after a two month search and, thanks to the advice I received from this forums members, I bought the right car. Good luck with your search.
