Default Grinding sound before latching soft top

My car is going in for service tomorrow for an end of CPO warranty inspection. The soft top makes a grinding sound at end of closing operation before latching to body at top of windshield. Car is equipped with aftermarket remote top module which has nothing ti do with sound. Anyone else experience this sound with their convertible top?

Try doing a forum search on the subject. I seem to remember several discussions indicating that sound is a precursor to latch failure. I could be wrong though.

noise when latching is normal; NOISE is not. Excessive noise is caused by friction, so perhaps a bit of grease is the cure.

How do you access the latching motor and gears? I reviewed the workshop manual to familiarize myself with the basic components, but never seen any lubricant maintenance process. I heard this unusual sound after I the washed the car. It is gone now. I'll ask the tech tomorrow about it at the dealer.
